Don't you have any bootlegs of the 1981 tour? Some of the drumming there sounds like he's had a couple! :-) Which, IMO, suggests that the drumming is sometimes played - which I think is what Ralf Hutter said in interviews at the time too? They had sequences 'n' stuff, but they could butt in and play if they felt it necessary. That was 1981, their next tour, of Italy Feb'90, was without Wolfi. So the answer to your question is, Flur didn't ever just stand about looking cool, although he could have.
