Years ago I asked why they were stocking bootlegs, the people behind the counter said they weren't bootlegs... "because they were obtained from our normal distributors".
Yes, ...and I know some hypocrites (especially on another non-K'list - we had a tough discussion on a similar topic ;-)) who still relay those kind of arguments (amongst other oddities) to "justify" as 'official' all kind of bootlegs fakes pirates and ambiguous illegitimate releases... (They 'keep their eyes closed' probably because they are crazy fans who always enjoy the stuff = "good" for collectors!?!...)

Well, it was released on silver CD by a major label with professionally made cover art and sold in normal consumer record stores. I'd say that makes it an official release. Bootlegs don't get sold in record stores. Except maybe used record stores.
Please, don't be so naïve ! ;-) *fyi* Kw bootlegs seem to be widely available in legal record stores (!) - at least in some of them: for instance my favourite local record shop currently sells the followings CDs since several years: Kw1 Kw2, R&F, Organisation-kraftwerk "tone float" (germanofon and crown "re-issues") "computersinfonien", "concerts classics", "autobahn tour" (all black cd-case, japan import), "toccata electronica", etc etc... (I don't remember the others!) including the curious "arbeiten/works/oeuvres", a *little bit confusing* bootleg featuring the *fake* famous 'capitol records' label on it(!!) - and *just for laugh* we can read only (no credits otherwise!) on the cd: "all rights of the manufacturer and of the owner of the recorded work are reserved. unauthorized public performance, broadcasting and copying of the record prohibited. printed and manufactured in australia (p)1991 capitol records, inc." *sigh*

Here in austria, I bought the "Concert Classics" at the Virgin Megastore in vienna which definitly _d o e s n o t_ sale 'illegal' CD's or bootlegs.
mmhhh, well ...but the "Concert Classics" (??) *hehe* ;-) *btw* I really don't know (and don't care) if CC has something 'legal' or not (I'm only sure Ralf and Florian have nothing to do whith that CC release and they didn't give authorization... *hehe*) but my own conviction is non ambiguous: BOOTLEG ! ;-) Maybe, perhaps, _ /o o\ Filtre4Pole \ ~ / I I - -
