Astralwerks/EMI will release the single "Tour De France 03" July 8, with the album "Tour De France" due to follow on July 22. The German group is working on the final mix of the new album at its own Kling Klang studios in Dusseldorf, according to a statement. The album will be the band's first all-new full-length since 1986's "Electric Cafe" (Elektra), and only its second in more than 20 years. The group's most recent release was the 1999 single "Expo 2000," inspired by the German Exposition of that year. Kraftwerk has also made music for the Tour de France before -- an EP of that name was released on vinyl in 1983, featuring the title track and three others. E

I would prefer to think that the new Tour de France may have something to do with Ralf's love of the race rather than selling out and just doing a song for money. I realize that they did basically sellout for Expo 2000 .. but Tour de France is different ... they're not writing just to be writing... they're writing about something Ralf loves. Multiple versions of new album?

Unless I missed it, I haven't seen anything indicating whether or not the new album will be released in both German and English versions. I'm sure the additional work time would be justified economically since doubtless most of us here would buy both... Frank

How much money on the next KW LP being about the Germany World Cup in 2006?. I can imagine the vocodered voices now... "Breitner..Beckenbauer...Klinsmann.." This is what I was thinking about... are KW working on demand? Maybe the send several projects to big events organizations asking for money? Maybe hay, guys, if you want the perfekt soundtrack for your event, WE HAVE the solution! For only 400.000 DM we can make ans special, exclusive soundtrack in several packages formats.... hehehehe I can imagine the tables of big CEOs with many KW projects... "oh, no, another KW project... why are we receiving this crap?"... hahaha They done it with Expo 2000 and now again with Thour de France 03. Why name the new album with a 20 years old song? None of the "brand new songs" are so good to name the album? There's no leitmotiv for it? The cycling race, maybe? So why don't they did it in 83? It sounds to me as new "hey, let's get some extra money" project. "Let's make a "new album", putting 3 or 4 news songs. All that stupid fans will buy it, we make a dozen concerts, some interviews and we can continue as "the fathers of electronic music. And can stay for the next 10 years doing nothing"...
