Honestly - I don't think that Bill's books (which are in fact quite well-written imo) or 17 or Jimmy's art pranks would have ever caught my attention, without their KLF past. To put their fans down (and they aren't legion - 19 years after they left the music business) means for me that they neglect those people who made their current activities possible. To be fair to Bill, maybe he meant that the 17 might disappoint KLF fans (musically speaking) rather than it being a specific diss of their ever-shrinking old-school fan base. Jimmy's always been a bit of an enigma/scowling fucker - although, didn't he meet the KLF.de guys in their yellow robes a few years ago, at a press conference, and told the press to "ignore them, they're harmless" ...? He seems to fluctuate between fondness ("Ah, Scooter", etc) and too-cool-for-school haughtiness. On the other hand, if I were at something with Bill Drummond and he said "any KLF fans? Just leave - now" then I would. He's an intelligent man, and a scholar of pop music for more years than I've been on the planet. He of all people should know how he'll never entirely step out of the KLF's shadow. Anything more than that, and he's just being an arse. Ya know, I don't think most KLF fans are looking for anything new from them or even any acknowledgement. If they gathered together their master tapes, dumped them off at Metropolis Mastering, The Vinyl Factory, or even left them with PVC and said "Here's everything, remaster it, add whatever unreleased bonuses you want, finish mixing "The Black Room" for us, release it all as some criminally expensive limited box and then just give us our cut" everyone would be happy and not bother them again. Honestly - I don't think that Bill's books (which are in fact quite well-written imo) or 17 or Jimmy's art pranks would have ever caught my attention, without their KLF past. To put their fans down (and they aren't legion - 19 years after they left the music business) means for me that they neglect those people who made their current activities possible.
"If you really want to do something, do it now" - Yeah, Bill, but it's easier with a KLF Platinum Card, isn't it.

I only said Jimmy had been ‘put off’ doing anything further K related, I didn’t say he had a hatred for the fans.
I think it’s fairly common for artists that have been a seminal part of pop history to tire of the constant reference to their past, especially when they are trying to move forward in different directions. It’s like an actor getting typecast.
I don’t take it as an insult to the fans at all, but I think it’s to be respected, especially if I were lucky enough to meet either one of them again.

But that would take away from what most of us love and respect about them. I’m not saying I wouldn’t be very excited to hear of such a project, but there would be a hint of disappointment too. To release the back catalogue (in full or in part) or go back to the KLF in whatever way would make a mockery of the most astonishing thing they ever did. Deleting the back catalogue as they broke up was…….. something that made us view them in the way we do today. Change that and you pretty much change history. Yeah, but that was 20 years ago. They made their statement and it's stood the test of time. Would love a catalog reissue. And just remember, they can't unburn a million quid...to me that was the most astonishing thing of all and still what they're most famous for. Possibly - although Fuck the Millennium was rather pedestrian, I always thought. I think Bill implied this was all part of the whole 1997 2K thing being a "parody" of bands reforming (specifically the Pistols getting together the year before) and the naffness of it. But maybe not. The fact they were sampling the Chemical Brothers on a KLF record always seemed ... odd.

Deleting the back catalouge was not really more than a gesture - if they really wanted to delete it The White Room (unarguably their most well known "best of" album) would not have been available continously all those years. Ya know, I don't think most KLF fans are looking for anything new from them or even any acknowledgement. If they gathered together their master tapes, dumped them off at Metropolis Mastering, The Vinyl Factory, or even left them with PVC and said "Here's everything, remaster it, add whatever unreleased bonuses you want, finish mixing "The Black Room" for us, release it all as some criminally expensive limited box and then just give us our cut" everyone would be happy and not bother them again.

I only said Jimmy had been ‘put off’ doing anything further K related, I didn’t say he had a hatred for the fans.
I think itÂ’s fairly common for artists that have been a seminal part of pop history to tire of the constant reference to their past, especially when they are trying to move forward in different directions. ItÂ’s like an actor getting typecast.
I donÂ’t take it as an insult to the fans at all, but I think itÂ’s to be respected, especially if I were lucky enough to meet either one of them again.

I think Bill implied this was all part of the whole 1997 2K thing being a "parody" of bands reforming (specifically the Pistols getting together the year before) and the naffness of it. But maybe not. The fact they were sampling the Chemical Brothers on a KLF record always seemed ... odd.
But yeah, if they wanted to do something, the one thing it wouldn't be would be what they've done before.

I don't see why they would drop all of their music business contacts and now be making boring copy & paste music that sounds like it was made in Reason. The use of samples and editing by Cauty on "Space" outstrips this FLK stuff by a few lightyears - and that was 20 years ago. I just think if this was actually B&J they would have pulled out all the stops, and come out with something, well.. better!
