Do you not realise that putting all those extra brackets will render peoples' filters useless, or are you just being a cunt?

Oh, for crying out loud. Let's not turn this into a "my {probably Linux based} email program is better than yours" fight, but obviously not everybody's program can do Regular Expression matching. Some of those program that can do complicated matching probably can't render HTML, and we compensate for them by making this a "no HTML" list. It's a little thing called "consensus". The fact that the list itself uses a plain old "[KLF]" should have been enough of an indicator to RMS that he should just use "[FTP]", but instead he decided to be a bit of a smart-arse. Whether he realised that this would stuff a lot of filters is something I'm still willing to give him the benefit of doubt for... just. To make it clear for the new people who have joined the list recently: * Keep posts (reasonably) on-topic. (I.e. Somehow KLF or Bill or Jimmy related.) * Mark off-topic posts with "[OT]" somewhere in your subject line. * Mark questions or statements about RMStringer's (or anyone else's) FTP site with "[FTP]" somewhere in your subject line. * Don't post in HTML. * Don't post excessive messages on stuff you have for sale. It's not a lot of "rules" to follow, people. Now, to quote Jack Nicholson, "Why can't we all just get along?" Michael

Even Outlook Express should be able to filter this out by setting a rule "Comes from RMStringer" and "has FTP in the subject", so I guess he can put as many brackets in the subject as he wants... and if even Microsoft can do it, what can't ? ;-) --- Thomas Touzimsky "Some millennia, you should better stay in bed."

Haha, I knew you would take the bite :) I can not use filter like this in Mozilla either, don't worry.
I don't even know how to filter, so you getting angry looks kind of funny, innocents protects me! For the last couple of days there has been loads of winging regarding format etc etc brackets and stuff on Email... There are some really sound and decent people on this list. This aint the first time some people wish to steam in to Rob Stringer. He has provided and kept up a FTP Server and most of us have downloaded something from him .We have found music and video which for some people it would of been the first time they had seen or heard this stuff. So come on there is far more shit going on in the world than moaning about formatting Emails. For Fucks sake get real its only a fucking Email........... It aint gonna jump out of the PC and stick one on on ya...... Have a thoughtful evening Regards Mark W.
Well said, Mark - see ya at Lemon Jelly - just sorting out some accommodation!! Anyway, at the risk of everybody deleting this mail before reading it ;->, here's some news I got back from Blacksmoke: "> Do you have a release date for both the single and also the Blacksmoke
album?
Nope, info will appear on the website when we're ready.
Also, do you know if A Guy Called Gerald has been confirmed as remixing 'Gimpo Gimpo'?
Yes. :) BLACK SMOKE" l8rs, Nick ;-)

taken offline cos its boring.
quick summary
* RMStringer is perfectly within his rights to post ftp messages and not snip redundant text
* its also everyone elses right to complain every time he does
* its also everyone who didnt complains right to complain about those who do.
so this circle will continue and continue until someone decides to stop the circle *L*

just piping in once, and then I'm off again if I remember correctly (I delete all old mails), when the guys were duking it out, they specifically said to mark the posts as [FTP] <- single brackets. single brackets work fine, and are visual enough. oh and rms: please, reply privately to ppl when they are sniping you on the list, instead of flooding the list with your single word replies. thank you! --- Agust "nemesis1" - aaj@centrum.is - ICQ: 1290264 - http://nem1.cjb.net free your :) [tm]
heh now I'm kicking myself, I meant to edit the topic to make it fit what I was preaching... and then I forgot ;p oh well, win some lose some... incidentally, does anyone have a full list/discog over the mixes done lately? For once and for all, I run my site as a courtesy to the KLF list. I got most of this material about 3 years ago when I lived in Indiana from a list member that lived in Wisconsin. I went up to his house and we traded music and programs. If this was for me only, I would not keep it open on my workstation 24 fucking 7 and open it up sometimes. I enjoy what is put on my server, true, but I run a great service also. I have a fast connection. I might limit it, but I give ample BW to the list member, which, most are overseas. I have only met I member. I have never seen anyone else, yet I trade with him or her freely. I am not a "Cunt" or an ASS or anything of the sort Sorry of th4e fucking brackets and my lack of "NETITUICKET" I never took a course in school as did others... I learned on my own. SO I maybe an ass sometimes, but aren't we all. Don't we all have a bad day? Mine was that day. Get over it and quit bitching about the fucking brackets. If it bothers you that much, U fucking leave the list. I am going to keep running my server for the list members until I get tired of hearing the petty squabbles about brackets. If it weren't me, it would be someone else that was ganged up on every few weeks or months. The band is fucking dead.....SO loosen up about the NETIEUCICKET....this should be fun, Not a SKOOL lesson. oh i don't know - as long as i've been on this list (and that's since about 95 i guess) every 4 or 5 months there's been a big flame war about something or other meaningless. posting in html was a good one. wether or not it was okay to convert songs to mp3 i remember as well for a list of fans for two people who epitomised anarchy, we can be really really nit picking when it comes to having everyone conform to the rules -- Jai 'at'illitrate'dot'co'dot'uk --- "Do you hear that? Mr Anderson? That is the sound of inevitability." -- Agent Smith
I put brackets as was requested...I did not know that "other" email prog would not catch them. I guess that the instructions should have been a little bit nor precise as to who has MS based stuff and who has other stuff. Everyone can see I am following the rules that was asked.
