I bought the "This is what Klf are about" PAL format video off eBay a couple months back for a pile of money. Finally got around to renting an International VCR recently and transferred the whole thing to NTSC format DVC. Now that I've transferred the tape to NTSC format I'll probably put the PAL version of "This is what Klf are about" back up for sale on eBay to recoup. Even with fair to middling quality, "This is what Klf are about" makes for delightful viewing. As an American fan, my only opportunities to watch Klf have been in an Ireland hotel room back in 1992 (a brief glimpse on Mtv Europe of WTIL played over a long shot of Ford Timelord driving down a lonely stretch of highway) and the mediocre Stadium House Trilogy. My two favorite videos included on the tape are "Doctorin' the Tardis" and "It's Grim Up North." "Doctorin' the Tardis" is a fitting tribute to Dr. Who. I had a good laugh seeing a puppeteers feet scooting the faux Dalek across the pavement as Ford Timelord bears down in the distance. Looking at all the videos, I believe "It's Grim Up North" best renders the mysterious, bold and gritty nature of the Jamm's, et al. The rest of the videos mostly are ridiculous, dated affairs. Most interesting are a number of clips nicked from television, including interviews with Bill and Jim. It was funny to see a clip of them constructing Sample City for the Stadium House Trilogy videos, from Rapido maybe. The Omnibus program at the end of the tape is probably the most fascinating glimpse into what motivates Bill and Jim, but it cuts off about 3/4 through the program. --Chris On Sun, 09 Mar 2003 09:56:57 +0000, bouwes@hotmail.com writes: The KLF: This Is What The KLF Are About [1992] bootleg video compilation What's the overall quality of this video? Which, I presume, means they used one of these http://www.solid-state-logic.com/ ? And mixed it "live at S.S.L." means it was mixed directly on an SSL mixing desk?
"ssl (solid state logic) is still the most common computer assisted make of desk and still the only one to insist upon. but all that could change in the fast moving world of studio hardware. from now on, we will refer to all computer desks as ssl (it's a bit of a hoover/ sellotape situation)." l8rs, Nick ;-)

aha! that must be the "transit kings" stuff that was being talked about last year. I think the ultra-limited promo was played on Xfm but I never managed to find out anything else about it. jon -- "A great many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices." - William James
