Announcement: KLF sharing week(s) begins today
Hello my friends: After reading everyone's comments, I have found myself quite inspired by the lively discussion. One point that has resonated with me is: people on this list have just been very poor at sharing over the years. Well, point taken. Micah is working very hard to solve this problem and develop the ultimate KLF (and related) archive. However, until then I've decided to open my personal vaults and share my KLF collection with the list. First of all, this initiative is in no way meant to be a replacement for Micahs's ultimate plan or to steal his thunder. This is only meant as a stop-gap until a proper archive may be established. Truth be told, I work at a University and find myself with about 10 days of free time until the next semester begins. I have spent 20 years, thousands of dollars, and thousands of hours tracking down my KLF catalog. It has been a ton of fun and the whole experience has added to my life. However, I personally feel that many KLF collectors have in the past refrained from sharing their rarities online because they don't wish to diminish the monetary value of their items; cold be wrong, but just a feeling. In these tough economic times, it's more important than ever for us to stick together and share our resources, even if it just is "art" or "entertainment" (to me the two are interchangeable, I'm sure I'll get a ton of shit for that statement). So, for each any every day I am on break until I return to work I will share one KLF item with the list online each and every day. Some things will be very rare, some will be more mainstream, but I intend to concentrate on vinyl only releases at initially. The plan is to use the tech at my disposal in my "Lime Room Studio" (well, my office is painted lime). I will be the first to admit I'm not a skilled audio engineer and don't have the best gear, but what I do have is: Macbook Pro 2.4 duo core processor running OS X Lion with 4 GB of Ram Audacity 1.3.13 beta with several versions Chris's Compressor plugin ArtCessories USB Phono Plus v2 preamp 16 bit, 44.1 KHz output, can do 48 KHz, but what's the point? Would love a 24 bit 96 KHz preamp for better archiving and editing but can't afford the $400 right now Sony PS-FL7 II Linear tracking drawer mounting turntable from the mid-1980s with a high quality, lightly used cartridge Plextor PX-B31OU Blu-Ray/DVD/CD drawer USB 2 burner/drive VMWare Fusion 3 running Windows XP SP3 allowing me to run the latest DBPowerramp and plugins Latest iTunes Various software to encode DVD audio to other audio formats I usually like to rip the vinyl to my hard drive via my preamp and Audacity. I then optimize the volume without clipping and apply a light amount of compression to make the recording sound a little more modern (the linear tracking turntable actually helps with this as the linear tracking gives vinyl a bit more of a CD sound). I clean my records first using an old-school Zerostat anti-static gun then use the 80s Discwasher system and dry. I clean the needle with the Discwasher system before every spin. I've noticed that vinyl quality counts more than anything, but I feel the antistatic and cleaning are important. i don't try to remove clicks or pops because this requires a 24 bit/96 KHz preamp to do without destroying the underlying sound quality. HOWEVER, I always keep the original rip before compressing/optimizing volume and am able to convert into any audio format via DBpoweramp and iTunes. If at any time anyone wants an unaltered file in any audio format please email me at danthutchins@gmail.com and I'll do my best to provide what you want. There are only two restrictions I place on my sharing: 1. I won't share it if it's still in print (US only I realize) 2. I will not share any PVC exclusives. Like him or not, PVC has uncovered virtually every single unreleased KLF item, went to a great deal of effort to do so, spent much time, money and effort to restore the sound, and then used the proceeds to fund fan-oriented activities; and he's done these things sincerely from the heart without making a penny of profit. He's carved-out a special place amongst the KLF community, has been an excellent friend to me since 1996, and I feel he deserves special consideration. Truth be told I would buy every single T-Shirt he releases if I had the money, but my financial situation isn't what it was two years ago so I just concentrate on his audio releases. Yesterday I released the alleged "Love Trance" This morning I released a CD quality promo rip of the "Waiting" soundtrack To kick-off KLF sharing days I will release another item momentarily. Dan
I'm all for sharing. I think the rarest KLF item I really want to see is the Madrugada Eterna single (http://www.discogs.com/KLF-Madrugada-Eterna/release/106611) with the Club mix. Does anyone have a copy of that?
I have the Italian one-sided boot with the club mix (but not the super-rare one with the other mixes which may oray not exist). In fact, I have ripped this track to digital a tital of 9 times no kidding tetunf various vinyl cleaning methis to get the beat rip possible as my copy isn't the best. Would you like me to up this tomorrow as my Saturday exclusive track??? Dan On Aug 26, 2011, at 8:49 PM, Mark Howk <link343e@gmail.com> wrote:

As far as I know. this is one of the releases that only two or three people close to the band have reported seeing and I don't ever recall anyone ever reporting seeing it in a shop. Just speculation, but I think the Italian bootleg is the actual official release because for economic reasons or because the guys were unhappy with the other mixes. If the 3 track exists at all, it is only as a test pressing. Again, I think the Italian bootleg is the actual legit KLF version. Will look at Lazlo's Discography machine and give you more info in a few moments. Dan On Aug 26, 2011, at 9:09 PM, Mark Howk <link343e@gmail.com> wrote:

Many years ago somebody made me a recording of ETERNA 1 Club Mix and Club Mix Edit. I remember comparing it to the ETERNITY 23 boot that I have and the quality of ETERNA 1 was definitely better. I seem to recall concluding that ETERNITY 23 had been made from a vinyl copy of ETERNA 1 rather than a master copy. If the 3 track exists at all, it is only as a test pressing.
Thing is that you don't test pressings or very limited (1-20) runs on pressing plant just for fun. B&J probably had money, but it is still really expensive. You have to make plates and clean the machine after all runs and so on. That's why I'm very skeptical with all those very small runs. Those either doensn't exist at all, or then there's more than announced. Good article how vinyl pressing works: http://www.crimson-ceremony.net/pr3/pressingplants/intro_vinyl.html -- antti l.
I suppose there are many explanations. A lot of these ultra limited runs start to appear in the discrogaphy after they started to experience some success. So a few therories: 1. They would pay the plant owner for the minimum run and then scrap the pressing after tests were made. The ower would love this as he would get to keep the entire fee for less work. 2. They knew someone at the plant and would pay them in drugs, hookers, etc. for unofficial, limited jobs. 3. They would press an entire run then destroy the extras to make their run limted art pieces. 4. There are boxes and boxes of unreleased records sitting in Bill's garage or a landfill somewhere. I have heard from many sources the KLF would often completely finish a product, have it pressed, then change their minds about it and never release it. Considering how many people were around them at the time, some of these things must have been stolen before destruction, accounting for the few that survived such as the handful of Eterna 1s that have been reported, or the Deep Shit 10IR, which must have been considered for a mail order only release or as a bonus disc for the first few hundred copies of the White Room OST...could one imagine releasing such a thing commercially??? I am sorry that i cannot start my FTP again and let the music flow...AND, most are 128kbps as they were collected and gathered from the web. If people have good copies then so be it at a better rate. It was what was here and given to the FTP. Dont be audiofile FLAC snobs. FLAC was not around while my ftp was running., a On Sat, Aug 27, 2011 at 8:14 AM, Dan T. Well, not saying bad things about you because what you say is completely correct. I've even grabbed a few things from you from time to time. The comments I've been hearing are that most on the list don't share even though this is supposed to be an open community. Truth be told, you are the only one I may recall who has ever openly shared reguIarly and I apologize for overlooking your exceptionally and critical contribution to this list. Truly sorry if I offended you RM...it was not my intention to overlook one of the few guys trying to share at his own expense. BTW, I also know you have taken a lot of crap over the years for server downtimes, download speed, simultaneous connections, etc. That was ALL unfair and uncalled for considering you have been doing this for the list gratis for a very long time. Maybe you and Micah should hook-up? You could probably give him much insight. Aside from the list's long, long history of sharing via Marshall's old 1987 stock being unearthed, the Arkive CDs, the White Room Soundtrack CDs, the two Lost Sounds Of Mu volumes, people's home "remasters" of unreleased or OOP material, people's rips of VHS-only material, people's taping and uploading of UK-only TV, John Milne (IIRC) ripping and posting big chunks of his Kollection as he was selling it off... Lazlo is long gone and this community is what we make of it. Its 2011 now and online music sharing is the norm. We are way behind other such communities i am member's of, which freely distribute to ALL its members, FREELY, the material that is available (did i say freely ?). Really, what are we waiting for ???? Its a sad state of affair when the only activity here is PVC's annual fundraiser and M25 spin, to which most can't even participate. Its NOT a knock on Tim's affairs, which is great for the people who buy his stuff and can make the long journey to the UK. Im just saying its a pity that nothing ELSE is going on. Im glad we've finally woken up and hope that the momentum around the idea of an open sharing of KLF material will continue. I am putting up a list of what I've got and will be posting to the list. Well, this is certainly great news. I don¹t feel as if you¹re stealing my thunder at all; if anything, you¹re giving us a good head start at a great archive of rare KLF material. :) Thanks very much. Dan, you're da man !!! I have unfortunately no experience in ripping Vinyl so you're on your own on that point. Please don't take this personally, but I still have a strong issue with point 2. I mean surely Simon, who did at least the same amount of work and poured as much as heart into his project as Tim does on his, deserves the same respect, and yet you post his White Room OST in lossless ? How are they different ??? I suspect that it's because everyone is scared that Tim will stop releasing stuff every year if we share. But If he does it for no profit and only for funding, then where is the problem ??? Ill gladly donate every year if it means that we get rid of this ridiculous embargo around rare KLF material coming from Tim…. and we can distribute these as online files and not CDRs or DVDs which are so 90s :) If however he's in it for the money, that would be an all different matter. I will be the first to admit I'm not a skilled audio engineer and don't have the best gear, but what I do have is:
Macbook Pro 2.4 duo core processor running OS X Lion with 4 GB of Ram Audacity 1.3.13 beta with several versions Chris's Compressor plugin ArtCessories USB Phono Plus v2 preamp 16 bit, 44.1 KHz output, can do 48 KHz, but what's the point? Would love a 24 bit 96 KHz preamp for better archiving and editing but can't afford the $400 right now Sony PS-FL7 II Linear tracking drawer mounting turntable from the mid-1980s with a high quality, lightly used cartridge Plextor PX-B31OU Blu-Ray/DVD/CD drawer USB 2 burner/drive VMWare Fusion 3 running Windows XP SP3 allowing me to run the latest DBPowerramp and plugins Latest iTunes Various software to encode DVD audio to other audio formats
I usually like to rip the vinyl to my hard drive via my preamp and Audacity. If at any time anyone wants an unaltered file in any audio format please email me at danthutchins@gmail.com (mailto:danthutchins@gmail.com) and I'll do my best to provide what you want. Dan

This isn't exactly rare neither, but I wanted to share a quick link as we are already on it. http://www.mediafire.com/?2ugj6wv695ia4k4 1. Justified And Ancient (demo mk II) (slighty sped up to match the tempo of the other versions/make Maxine sound less stoned) 2. Justified And Ancient (all bound for mu mu land - radio) (always preferred Maxine's vocals so edited down the 7+ minutes; great for home-made compilations) I did some more personal edits, including edited-down CD versions to recreate the shorter vinyl-only edits. Not exactly official KLF material, but if someone's interested, I could do some more of these and share them as well. ..::// Thomas Touzimsky "While there are limits to success, your capacity for failure is infinite." - Aaron Williams
The original proviso was "This needs to be heard by everyone on the list . make it available to other list members". Nearly a decade later Dan has done just that! Contrary to what my original notes said, the stereo image on this is wrong - i.e. L/R channels need swapping back (the tape was correct). There is also a dropout in The Church Of The KLF. I seem to remember that somebody fixed that, but can't remember who. Subject: Re: [KLF] Announcement: KLF sharing week(s) begins today Please don't take this personally, but I still have a strong issue with point 2. I mean surely Simon, who did at least the same amount of work and poured as much as heart into his project as Tim does on his, deserves the same respect, and yet you post his White Room OST in lossless ? How are they different ???
