Re: [KLF] on-topic: Jimmy royalties from Aus
(And they must be getting royalty checks from America whenever Wanda Dee impersonates them.)
Actually I don't think you collect royalties for live performances, only broadcast recordings. Think of all the Beatle sound-alike bands and the checks they'd have to dish out! -paul Currently in rotation: Frank Zappa - Cheap Thrills Enigma - Voyager (advance); Apollo 440 - Dude Descending a Staicase; Proclaimers - Born Innocent

Isn't it divided? There's two parts to royalties - the written music bit and the performance bit. (It's called the "mechanical" and the something-else. Mind's a blank...) So yeah, they get less of a royalty if Wanda dances along to her own rerecording of the songs, but they should still get something. Michael
PRS in the UK should in theory pay an amount to the artists as all venues pay to PRS. Dj's can fill in playlists and send hem in. However this doesnt happen so the money gets distributed elsewhere. However in the last 6 months there has been a pilot scheme where Dj's do an 'average' tracklist and hand in all their dates. this ended yesterday, so we have to wait to see how the new distribution gets done. However, if Wanna Be has a KLF performance, it would be pretty clear that lots of it would be KLF tracks, which may or may not get back to collection agencies, so they should get paid.

For those in the states, there's a documentary touring around about Robert Anton Wilson, which is mostly made up of recent interviews. It's in Portland, Oregon right now. Apparently RAW ran for governor on the dope and guns party in California. jr ----------------------------------------- Jeremiah "Spassvogel" Rickert 6'7" 320 lbs of Dr. Pepper and Pez Candy. -----------------------------------------
