Saw the movie also but switched after 45 minutes... Suppose the connection was made after 45 minutes? ;) Maarten

Hi, everyone,
I watched the Milos Forman biopic "Man on the Moon" last night, about US comic (?) Andy Kaufman and - bizarre as it might seem - couldn't help see a few parallels with the spirit of Bill and Jimmy.
I don't know much about Kaufman (born in the wrong decade and continent, I'm afraid) but he does seem a very interesting and fearless artist (and even people who can't stand the KLF, would probably grant them that too).
Here are a few thoughts: Kaufman was (or appeared to be) a prankster, even though he said he "never did anything to be funny" (in the same way that "they have no master plan" I suppose). His pranks were huge, expansive, irritating, designed to cause offence, and above all else - secretive. He delighted in pseudonyms and different characters he would never break from - and he was constantly referred to as a "performance artists".
His greatest scams of all confused and alienated fans, and it seemed for all the world that first and foremost he was entertaining himself. Even when he was diagnosed with cancer, so great had the lies around him been spun, that people suspect it was still "a gag".
Even today, his enigma continues in a cult.
Can't help seeing similarities. Like the K Foundation, he seems to be prepared to not "piss about" and "fucking go the whole fucking way, and then not come back again".
What do others think?
John

I turned up for the start, middle and end (sort of) of Gimpo's now famous 25 Hour M25 spin and thoroughly enjoyed it. before anyone asks neither Bill or Jimmy was there. But it wasn't about them. It was about Gimpo. It was about the M25. It was a gathering. It was a celebration, of the man, and of the road. I loved it. You all should do a bit, just turn up to see them off. I and my flatmate were lucky we got invited to join them in the transit van for one lap. Ok we were light weights and didn't do the whole thing, but we were made welcome to join in and be part of it. 10 laps (usually 10-12 I was told) were done this year (the eigth) So go and see them (and us) next year, as Gimpo fast approaches the hundred mark. Maybe one day he'll find out where it actually leads to. Thanks to Gimpo, Tim and the DJ Angus who provided the tunes. See you all next year. Colin and Jenny
Colin and Jenny, Thanks for your wonderful cakes and the fantastic LED business. I had a wonderful time on the spin. I have a sneaking suspicion that the experience has changed my life and the possibilities available to it. Only a day after the event, I can't believe it actually happened. At the same time I *know* that it did and gain enormous sustenance from it. If "why not" is a good enough motivation for people to travel from across the world to participate in something as daft as this, what other things could we achieve. Thanks for your support. Hope to see you soon. Angus. PS. Jenny - hope you get that photography job. I know that your more than good enough.
That message to Colin and Jenny was not meant, as you can appreciate I'm sure, for the list. I apologise to those whose inbox's it inconvenienced. That doesn't change the fact we had an incredible time. Angus
