Shag Times Vinyl Question
Hi there. I was wondering if someone could help me. I bought a copy of Shag Times from a second-hand store today and I'm not sure if I've got a bootleg or a mispress. The album is gatefold - the press chronology runs in the correct chronological order and the catalogue number on the spine is JAMS DLP 3. It has the 2 LPs for the price of 1 sticker on the front. The problem is that Side 1 is missing. When I play Side 1, I actually get Side 3. Side 3 and Side 4 are both correct so I'm getting Side 3 twice and no side 1. The other odd thing is on the second disc with the correct tracks. It appears as if the label for Side 3 has been restuck (badly) to the original label for side 3 (it's the one with all the bmps listed on it) so it appears as if something else could be beneath it. Anyway, I'm assuming I've been had. But everything else about the record seems legit (the hand scratched codes on the vinyl for example). What do you think? Thanks Neil
Sounds like you've got a rare mispressing to me - hang on to it! :) On 14 October 2013 17:07, Neil Perryman <neil.perryman@gmail.com> wrote:

Actually, sorry, it's Side 4 that plays twice. Same number of tracks (3) but not the right tunes! Which is a bit of a pain because those are the tracks I really wanted! ;-) Neil On Mon, Oct 14, 2013 at 5:21 PM, Nick King <nickwking@ntlworld.com> wrote:

Let me get this clear to myself.. :) Original Yours Side 1 Side 4 Side 2 Side 2 Side 3 Side 3 Side 4 Side 4 There's reportedly misspress but personally I haven't seen it. Wouldn't worry about the sticker, might be just a glitch in sticker stamping machine and they had to fix it by hand. Although it's quite coincidence to have them together. Does your have a barcode on back? And what do the etching on run-out groove (plain area around label) say? -- anttil. On 14.10.2013 19:07, Neil Perryman wrote:

Hi. Yes, that's how the record has been pressed - Side 1 replaced by Side 4. Yes, there is a barcode on back inside the F in KLF. This is what the etching says: Side 1: Adrenaline and JAMS LP- 3 A Side 2: Adrenaline and JAMS LP C B (scratch between C and B) Side 3: Adrenaline and JAMS LP-3 C (2 scratches before C) Side 4: Adrenaline and JAMS LP-3 D (2 scratches before the D) They all have FAG etched on them too. Looking at my (normal) copy it looks like the letters have been scratched out as follows Side 1 : JAMS LP - 3 D C A Side 2 : JAMS LP - 3 D B Side 3 : JAMS LP - 3 BA C Side 4 : JAMS LP - 3 D A B So side 4 could have appeared as Side 1, 2 or 4? Weird On 14/10/2013 18:24, Neil Perryman wrote:

That's really weird. I would have thought that this misspress side 2 would then exactly same marking as side 4. Seems that they somehow screwed up the pressing plate then and because "normal" has different etchings, it could be that they probably pressed few of these misspress first and then made new pressing plates. As those markings on "normal" doesn't really make sense (I would except them to be A, B , C ,D in order) it could be that they actually made couple other misspresses too. Who knows :) Need to check mine, if they're same. -- anttil. On 14.10.2013 20:48, Andrew Shinn wrote:
Looking at my (normal) copy it looks like the letters have been scratched out as follows
Side 1 : JAMS LP - 3 D C A Side 2 : JAMS LP - 3 D B Side 3 : JAMS LP - 3 BA C Side 4 : JAMS LP - 3 D A B
So side 4 could have appeared as Side 1, 2 or 4?
Weird

Hi. Yes, that's how the record has been pressed - Side 1 replaced by Side 4.
Yes, there is a barcode on back inside the F in KLF.
This is what the etching says:
Side 1: Adrenaline and JAMS LP- 3 A Side 2: Adrenaline and JAMS LP C B (scratch between C and B) Side 3: Adrenaline and JAMS LP-3 C (2 scratches before C) Side 4: Adrenaline and JAMS LP-3 D (2 scratches before the D)
They all have FAG etched on them too.
Thanks

There's reportedly misspress but personally I haven't seen it. Wouldn't worry about the sticker, might be just a glitch in sticker stamping machine and they had to fix it by hand. Although it's quite coincidence to have them together.
Does your have a barcode on back? And what do the etching on run-out groove (plain area around label) say?

Thanks
Neil
