Hi all, After some really great advice, I will be making all my rips available someplace known to those who have been paying attention. I will make all my vinyl rips available in two versions, as unaltered Wavs and as Dan or Dmasters if you will in WAV and maybe Apple Lossless depending on feedback. CD rips of things I make will always be unaltered. When making my rips, I first carefully Zerostat and clean my records, I then play them once to workout any latent dirt and debris, then Zerostat, clean, and rip them upon the second play. The Dmasters are recorded around -6 db them amplified according to Audacity analysis, then lightly (but never heavily) compressed for a more modern CD/iPod sound. I then delete excess silence between, before, and after tracks. As I make the original rips available as well all are welcome to make their own remasters, I make the Dmasters mainly for my own enjoyment. I have an excellent quality 16 bit/44.100 khz preamp, but would LOVE a 24 bit/96,000 khz preamp for archival purposes to share for posterity and mastering by better hands than my own. So far, the least expensive USB one available in the US I may find (I use a laptop so peripheral cards aren't an option) is the Furutech http://www.lpgear.com/product/FURUTECHGT40.html for $480. Unless i experience a change in fortunes this won't happen for sometime. If someone, anyone, can recommend a decent quality 24/96,000 USB phono preamp for less than this that is available in the US then PLEASE forward the details to me as i can probably get away with $250. Busily ripping, remastering, and uploading as we speak! Be on the look-out for some new things. Dan
Hey Dan, may i suggest that using .wav is pretty much a waste of bandwidth. You could reduce file sizes by 2 using FLAC and save quite a lot of time for everyone d/l these, and for the host reduce u/l power. Without compromising any quality. For 24/96 preamp, id be willing to contribute to the fee but i have no opinion / experience on solutions out there. Cheers Xav Cheers, Xav Le vendredi 2 septembre 2011 à 23:57, Dan Hutchins a écrit :

Would consider usin Apple Losses as it's similar to FLAC in terms of file size and is more cross platform. Dan On Sep 3, 2011, at 4:10 AM, Xavier <alunare@gmail.com> wrote:

Appe Lossless is just as good, but not as common. Not everyone owns a Mac or Apple products, unfortunately :) Cheers, Xav Le samedi 3 septembre 2011 à 13:01, Dan T. Hutchins a écrit :

The FLAC website has downloads for Linux, Mac OS X, Windows, Amiga, IRIX and Solaris. Not to mention that lots of set-top boxes, car stereos and whatnot have FLAC support these days. If you're on a Mac, ripping to FLAC is just as easy, using XLD[1]. That being said, I'm not knocking people for sharing Apple Lossless audio here. Any lossless format gets my vote. :) [1] http://tmkk.pv.land.to/xld/index_e.html -- Jan Lund Thomsen C64 Remixes: http://Remix.Kwed.Org Podcast: http://C64Takeaway.com Twitter: http://twitter.com/C64Takeaway
