Watch the Bank of Scotland burn a quarter of a million quid
First of all, apologies for those who browse the list archives. I now use web-based e-mail rather than Outlook, and I don't know how to get lines of texts to stay within the Window rather than extending onwards (as it's doing now!). If anyone knows, please tell me! Anyway, I was browsing through an old copy of "The Scots Magazine" (a periodical about all things Scottish, obviously) from September 1966 when this advert caught my eye: "Planning a Film Show? "£750,000 on fire! This heart-rending spectacle can be seen in the Bank of Scotland's new seven-minute 16mm film "Money to Burn". "For the very first time, cameras have captured in colour all the bustle and excitement of an event which, until recently, no one outside banking circles had been allowed to witness - the burning of thousands of bank notes. "The film is bookable throughj any of the Bank's branches or by direct application to: BANK OF SCOTLAND, PUBLIC RELATIONS DEPARTMENT, THE MOUND, EDINBURGH 1." I wonder if young Bill ever saw this film? I remember seeing something similar on Blue Peter! (filmed in the royal mint iirc) Chris

I wonder if this one was before or after a smal child got to burn a million quid (in worn out bank notes due for destruction) at the Bank of England on "Jim'll fix it" in the late 70s? - Andy_R
I got talking to my uncle about music one night and it was one of those things where the generation gap is insurmountable. He couldn't accept anything after Motorhead's third LP, as it were, as being any good even though he complained about his dad not accepting The Beatles because they'd ruined rock'n'roll. Anyway at some point I started ranting about how more recent bands had played with the whole culture of rock and roll sensibilities and of course I was giving him the full sp on The KLF and mentioned the burning of the £1m as a great event and lo and behold, he mentioned this 'Jim'll Fix It' thing (I'm not sure what this show was). Of course I thought he was just playing a bullshit trump card to prove his general point that "modern stuff...it's all rehash" Of course he's right. At least everything after The KLF is. Right? <defensive on> I did say when I set up the X$X Yahoo group that I wasn't wanting to go on about it too much on this list and since there's been a lot less discussion of X$X than, for example, Skinny Puppy in the past year, I hope you'll oblige me for a mo' Somebody said 'Let's get Jimmy to deny all this X$X stuff and we can all go home happy' Well as far as I know B&J via Mick Houghton have denied the X$X at intervals since 1991. I for one don't believe there's any direct connection. The evidence has always showed that it's, guess who, KLF fans who have drawn the connections! Of course there are other KLF fans who get pissed off by that because if it were true then their completist pictures would have become cracked if not smashed altogether. But lets get one thing certain and clear here since some here seem to think that they've got a superior take on what's fun than I have (or indeed you, whoever you are, have). I'm not promoting X$X or any aspect of X$X's alleged this or that any more than people here were promoting Skinny Puppy. It's of interest to me and I happen to mention my interests occasionally.SO SUE ME DOT COM I'm not goinna be the subject of anybody's gang-bang. <defensive off> Ray --------------------------------- ALL-NEW Yahoo! Jimmy was at a gig in Bristol recently and i asked hi straight out was it him. He claimed not to have heard of it. I asked him several times until he was fed up. Seemed quite genuine. But if he denied it before then he knew about it. Then who cares? ----- Original Message ----- From: Raymond Baal To: klf@mailman.xmission.com Sent: Thursday, August 19, 2004 12:04 AM Subject: [KLF] Jimmy's X$X Collection <defensive on> I did say when I set up the X$X Yahoo group that I wasn't wanting to go on about it too much on this list and since there's been a lot less discussion of X$X than, for example, Skinny Puppy in the past year, I hope you'll oblige me for a mo' Somebody said 'Let's get Jimmy to deny all this X$X stuff and we can all go home happy' Well as far as I know B&J via Mick Houghton have denied the X$X at intervals since 1991.
