Re: [KLF] Contemplating sale of KLF Vinyl- Advice please
Question is, has anyone out there sold off their collections and later regretted it? I'm seriously in two minds about selling but don't see the point of the stuff gathering dust when it could be buying my imminent bundle of joy a better cot or push chair.
While I don't have an answer I understand your delima. I've occasionally looked in the Archives and wondered if I should just compile all the rarities (say all my KLF singles) onto a series of CDRs and just sell the originals. I mean, when was the last time I pulled out my Kylie Remix 12"? Stick it on CDR and sell it. I think I would keep cool stuff like an original 1987, etc. Ultimately, tho, I just like having them around. Plus I enjoy occasionally sending my wife a link to an outrageous auction to aid her understanding. :) It is good to know, tho, that if we ever faced some financial disaster I could sell some of this stuff and make a quick couple of bucks. If you do decide to sell, I'd make a backup archive. Convert the wav files to shn or flac or some other lossless compression and stick em on a couple of DVD-Rs. I also use PAR2 to make recovery files in case one of the files gets damaged. -paul Currently in rotation: Sparks - various
I had my hand forced recently when I had a fair number of items stolen. Sadly, I'd taken some of my rarer items to a DJ friend's house and he was burgled while we were out. He came off much worse, losing a large amount of equipment (what they couldn't carry they chucked down the stairs), but I lost the records I'd brought with me (including the PT3 and PT4 sleeves which were being used to house a black JAMS28T (yep, the black version of the grey one) and one of my KLF 92 PROMO 3's. I can't offer you a solution to your dilemma either I'm afraid, however I can certainly see the merits in simply putting it all onto CDR/MiniDisc/iPod and then selling the lot. Certainly, if you're looking for a good (and now much more secure) home for some of your collection let me know as I'm in the market again for some rarities! Chris
Funy I've had just the opposite thought. Getting rid of all my vinyl exept my KLF (and a couple of other choice artists.) Also sounds like a lossless audio archive project to me. Mind you with DVDrs being so cheap it wouldn't be too bad as waves or (AC3 as I've been playing with recently) 5.1 Space is great!
