OT - JAMMS Greatest Hits / Big Fat 45
Chris wrote: Cheers, but: what were "Steve Gregory and Haggis"' noms du Love Raction? I'm no expert regarding Zodiac Mindwarp, but as far as I can remember, Kid Chaos (aka Haggis) was a member of Zodiac - leaving the band in 1988 to join The Cult. 'Big Fat 45' was released in January 1988. The only real info I have on this release was found on Lazlo's discography. If anyone else on the list knows more about it's origins I would be very interested.

No, but Zodiac's member is discussed at length (eh? eh?) in his books... Seriously yeah, Kid Chaos was the classic-era Love Reaction bassist - and is also on-topic by virtue of having wielded his rumblehammer on Bill Drummond's The Man. Ta!

The Library of Mu has this to say about Fierce. Underground 10 Jan-88 feature ? NME 9-Jan-88 JAMMBUSTERS "IF YOU wanna ride my rocket ship, baby, then first you gotta light the fuse..." Thus begins the first sonic salvo of 1988 to bear the moniker of THE JUSTIFIED ANCIENTS OF MU MU, dumped anonymously onto the Thrills desk last week by the familar KLF white label. A truely fierce load of old tosh, the limited edition 12" EP is entiled simply '20 Greatest Hits' and marks a return to the all-sampling mayhem of "All You Need Is Love", illegally lifting segments from Clash, Pistols and Beatles hits, among others, in an unholy heavy metal collage. The accompanying press release claims that the EP is the sound of THE JAMMS returning tothe basics of their trade: "For too long have we trudged the dreary foothills of rock's tiny constricted world. It's time to scale the heady heights and have the wind tear the shirt from our backs ..." Sounds more like the same old hot air as last time to us. CROCK-MAN CROCK NME 16-Jan-88 The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu release their new record '20 Greatest Hits' this week - only Rockman Rock and King Boy D claim it isn't them. The duo say they have not been involved in the making of the record but welcome the emergence of any number of people recording as the Jamms for various KLF labels. "We look forward to this sort of behaviour reaching its logical conclusion, the Top 20 packed with aspiring record makers using whoever else's name they fancied," they say. "We would hopefully arrive at a position where all reputations were destroyed and careers left in tatters. We are currently considering becoming The Fall/Pet Shop Boys/Sugarcubes." NME 16-Jan-88 THE JUSTIFIED ANCIENTS OF MU MU are hot on the trail of the culprit behind the current 'KLF 20 Greatest Hits Scam'. The only real clue they have is that the bogus JAMMS press release which accompanies the fake record is made up of quotes from the extensive public statement KING BOY D made when he quit his job as a WEA records A&R man. During which time incidentally he is reported to have lost the company over a UKP1m. Back to the Jammscam, and though we can reveal no names nor numbers it is within PUBLIC NME's power to suggest the perturbed samplers cast their search in the direction of Wales. This doesn't mean THE ALARM have become the latest gangsters of the groove. Underground 12 - March 1988 Rumours are rife that the latest Jamms single - Big Fat 45 - was in fact not even anything to do with Jamms. Yes, those kings of sampling say they know nothing of the record, which boasts Zep licks and Eric Morecombe dialogue, among other things. The fickle finger of accusation points to the Fierce Records conglomerate in Wales. The Fierce ones are not answering their telephone at the moment. The Great Chain Robbery by Jack Barron is a great read, but too long to type. I'll have to scan and OCR that one. remind me. cheers -- Stuart Young, Michelle Ardern & Felix Ardern-Young (2) have moved to: 42B, Sefton Ave, Grey Lynn, Auckland, NZ Same Phone: +64 (0)9 376 8100 say.map@ihug.co.nz Stuey is webmaster of the NZ Green Party: http://www.greens.org.nz/ And webmaster of his own personal website - a cobweb site: http://easyweb.easynet.co.uk/~stuey/
