Well maybe somebody should borrow an idea from that show and take all these statistics about the age & geographical location of listmembers and work out "the average KLF fan". I would guess that he is 25 and lives in France... I was tempted to say 23, but let's face it, as Bill and Jimmy get older so do most of their fans. If anybody on this list is 17 now, then they could have been introduced to the "1987" LP by their Dad when they were two years old. As for nationality, the programme I mentioned doesn't use percentages- it simply averages out the geographical points where a Dave Gorman lives and produces a geographical average location for Dave Gorman- which, in the shows I've seen, is in a country where there isn't a single Dave Gorman to be found. There aren't that many US fans all things considered- they might make a big difference and mean that the average KLF fan lives in Western France perhaps... What would happen if we were to statistically weight the averages as a percentage of the population of the country? Our "average KLF fan" would probably end up in Egypt or Africa. (And how do you average points on a sphere anyway? Do Australian fans 'pull' the average clockwise or anticlockwise around the earth? Well it was only a suggestion. But for the sake of argument, yes, based on that information, Benoit Mandelbrot was a whiney moaney philosophical Belgian.

You need a reference point- in the TV programme, Dave Gorman uses his house in London, although that's not too far away from the Greenwich Meridian which might be a more well-known line to draw. It's a slightly arbitary system- as far as people in the UK and their maps are concerned, the Americas are all West of Europe, and Asia and Australasia all East of Europe. It's sometimes easy to forget that if you were travelling from the US to New Zealand then there's a shortcut that you could take that might be quicker than flying over Africa...
One thing is for sure... your average KLF fan, at least on this mailing list, is Male!

Not quite. Mu (or Lemuria) was a continent in the Pacific, Atlantis was a small island in the Atlantic. I'm a 17 year old (2/24/84) American, born in Cleveland, Ohio, now living in Gatlinburg, Tennessee for the past eight years (think of Seattle, WA, only less interesting). I found a copy of Chill Out precisely three and a half years ago and have been obsessed since... Ironically, I retired from the KLF community just a few hours ago, so don't count me in your census...
