Something which I've wondered since it first came out: Did Bill and Jimmy originally intend Maxine Harvey to sing the single mix of "Justified and Ancient", and only changed it once Tammy Wynette got involved? Is that why we have the "All Bound For Mu Mu Land" version (as featured on CHOC ICE 1 and the CD single/12"?) John
Don't know but on the subject why is it that choc ice 3, despite being ultra rare, i.e. only 200 copies pressed only changes hands for 30 odd quid? ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Milne" <john@highlandland.fsnet.co.uk> To: <klf@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Sunday, October 10, 2004 11:07 PM Subject: [KLF] An obvious question?

Possibly because it's heavily bootlegged? And only one track? Even USA92PROMO2 is cheaper than it used to be, going by ebay prices. PROMO3, "Love Trance", etc. are still expensive, though, I think. Also, I remember reading somewhere there CHOC ICE 3 was released as an (official?) KLF CDR promo in 1994: CD5: 1994 UK (??; ??) [x3, recordable CD, authenticated by Cress & Bill] 7:10 Justified and Ancient (anti a cappella mix) Okay, only three copies is hardly likely to flood the market - but a recordable CD in 1994 would have been a real rarity, let alone what as on it. Also, how did Bill and Cressida "authenticate it"? Was it mentioned in an interview with them both (I can't remember Cress being interviewed ever) and they went "oh yes, that was us"? there is an interview somewhere... can't remember if it was a tv or in a mag, where they are talking about justified and ancient, and how tammy ended up on it - and they say something along the lines of how they'd put it all together and recorded maxine singing it all, and then they found out that they could get tammy wynette, so they flew out there, spent a day or so having her record the lyrics, flew back and found that she was totally off speed and out of tune and had to jig around with the recording loads to make it fit with the rest of the track i thinking i definately read that somewere, so it must have been a magazine interview so at the least, i think Maxine's vocals were the backup in case tammy refused to join the jams -- --- was made the first to laugh - tried but the tribute short changed kindness flowers and silence - was made the first to laugh charmed but the weather broke me sober - i've never been colder seen braver seemed braver since then - but never been no favours no saviours no sense its not in me - "flowers and silence" - sneaker pimps -- --------------------------------------------------- --- jai nelson http://www.illitrate.co.uk jai@illitrate.co.uk

Not a real answer, but the original version that appears as "demo mk2" on some bootlegs was sung by Maxine herself, so I guess she was the original vocalist intended to do J&A. ..::// Thomas
