that mix was part of the orb mp3 project that circulated a while back... not bad indeed.

A few years ago, someone who used to be associated with The Orb (exactly who was never made public) offered a bulk lot of DATs for sale, which included a number of demos, remixes, alternate/extended mixes, and live sets; most of which was not currently available. An Orb fan (also not publicly known, but I have my suspicions) bought them (for maybe $400-$500, IIRC), and graciously released them in bulk 256 kbps mp3 form to the Orb list. The mp3s filled 6 CD-Rs, and were distributed through a tree. Now, they are available from a number of ftp sites, and probably on your favorite file-sharing service. Unfortunately, all of the DATs were mp3ed as one long track per DAT, so it took me quite some time to develop tracklistings, decide on good track-breaks, clean up the tapeflips etc., and burn them to audio CDs. Some really nice stuff in there, most of it in pretty good quality (including the sources for a number of the tracks that ended up on Live 93). You also get three mixes that show the evolution of the track Codpiece/Cocksville USA/Occidental (all longer than their released forms), and a ton of other neat stuff. did you keep a text file of the track breaks? it would save me a bunch of heartache if you were willing to share. please let me know and thanks! lysergic

Could someone point me to an FTP server with the mp3s on it please? Thanks Chris

I've gotten mulitple request for this information, so I'm going to post it to the list, as previously posted to the Orb list on this subject... I have the information for the rest of the stuff, but not compiled in a handy format. I'll add it to my To Do list, but it'll be a while, if ever, unless someone wants to make it worth my while. ;) Chris ============= (When it comes to breaking tracks, I'm of the "do it when the next track identifiably starts" school; in most cases you could reasonably break the tracks anywhere from 30 seconds to a couple of minutes earlier.) ============= ABtU demos: Seems to be similar to, if not the same as, the one listed in Lazlo's discography. Cocksville USA (from Axiom Dub - Mysteries Of Creation) is an edit of the "original" mix. Occidental from Orbus Terrarum is an edit of the "Occidental" mix. Codpiece (Trouser Torpedo mix) by the ByTESIZE NUNS (Kris Needs and the Orb, on/in Trance Europe Express 4) is an edit of the "Kris Needs" mix. Read the article on ByTESIZE NUNS in TEEX 4 for a lot more information on these tracks. ============ The version of the Boston Avalon show on these discs is screwed up (there is a bunch of one track missing, and a bad track break). So is the version on both of the FTP sites (the AHEGPB track is broken, and only the first 8 seconds is usable). However, the two versions are screwed up differently, so it is possible to compile them into one complete, seamless set (using mostly material from the version on the MP3 CDs). My notes from amalgamating the two differently broken versions of the Boston Avalon show: From the 256 kbps mp3s in the set use Tracks 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, and 10 as is. From the 128 kpbs version on the ftp sites, use track 5 (Delta MK II). You will need to cut about 12 seconds from the beginning of the track, to ensure a smooth flow from the previous track. Luckily, there is a very obvious sample (the purr/buzz vocal sample from Delta MK II) that the 256 kbps version of track 4 ends right before, so it isn't too hard to match them up. (The 256 kbps version of track 5 is missing a big chunk (about 6 minutes).) From the 256 kbps mp3, use track 6, but you should break it into two tracks; the first one (Outlands) is about 9:44. The second one (the first part of AHEGPB) is about 8:22. I normalized the two parts separately, so they end up at a pretty much the same level, and the volume is more consistent. =============== Brixton Fridge 5/12/91 This is the gig that the "Pulsating Sounds Of Orb" bootleg is supposedly from (see below) My final CD track listing is: Disc 1 3:30 intro (the usual "opera" intro) 7:46 Little Fluffy Clouds 6:15 Towers Of Dub 9:43 Perpetual Dawn 10:36 Star 6 & 7 8 9 8:08 Outlands 15:10 AHEGPBTRFTCOTU Disc 2 7:53 AHEGPBTRFTCOTU (orbital dance mix) 6:33 Delkom - Superjack (orbital infusion 2000) 6:43 Yello - Do It (Sun Electric's Blessed & Beaten mix) The actual file breaks down as follows (w/ 75 fps): 0:00:00:00 - 0:03:30:00 intro (the usual "opera" intro) 0:03:30:00 - 0:11:16:00 Little Fluffy Clouds 0:11:16:00 - 0:17:31:00 Towers Of Dub 0:17:31:00 - 0:27:14:00 Perpetual Dawn 0:27:14:00 - 0:37:50:00 Star 6 & 7 8 9 0:37:50:00 - 0:45:58:40 Outlands 0:45:58:40 - 1:01:08:59 AHEGPBTRFTCOTU 1:01:08:59 - 1:09:02:00 AHEGPBTRFTCOTU (orbital dance mix) 1:09:02:00 - 1:15:35:00 Delkom - Superjack (orbital infusion 2000) 1:15:35:00 - 1:22:18:31 Yello - Do It (Sun Electric's Blessed & Beaten mix) Notes: I believe RJ mentioned at some point that the PSoO bootleg was supposedly actually mastered from the same tape he got; I haven't done a detailed comparison, but it seems to fit, down to the inclusion of the Orbital Dance mix of AHEGPB. This is further supported by the fact that the tape flip at 45+ minutes has already been excised and faded in/out. In addition, the timings are quite close to PSoO. However, there is a date discrepancy; this file is dated 5/12/91; Patterns & Textures is dated 5/12/92, and PSoO is "dated" in Lazlo's discography as 5/12/92. This file seems to match PSoO, but neither seems to match P&T... The last three tracks are clearly tacked on after the fact; there is no crowd noise, and there are identifiable artifacts where the tracks start/end. This copy of Delkom - Superjack is quite a bit better than then one currently on the various FTPs; someone might want to excise it from the larger file and upload it as a replacement. =============== This is the list of the contents of the project. (Note that a few tracks weren't separated, and at least two shows swapped which disc they were on. (Also note that several of the shows on disc 6 are already in wide circulation and have been on the FTPs for quite a while.)) I have an on-going project to produce tracklistings, timings, and ultimately audio CD-Rs for all of these files. You can get some of my data from the text files on moresounds, or you can email me for my latest. Also, if someone could do a tracklisting/timing breakdown for the Orbert demo, I'd be most appreciative; that is one that I'll never be able to do.
