The costumes remind me of the KKK, particularly with the drummers. On the bbc at Christmas?! I would expect that the costumes were supposed to be reminiscent of an ancient occult organisation (the jams), but I am surprised that they were not interpreted as being cross burners by the uk public. This would appeal to the 'you what? you what? you what?' aspect of uk society. Well, when I saw the costumes, it didn't really remind me of the KKK completely. Now that I look back on it, the only similarities I see between them are the pointed hats. Otherwise, I just don't really see the KKK when I see the JAMs performing on stage. The KKK probably isn't as controversial in the UK as it is here in the USA. I don't believe they really branched out internationally. They reached the apex of their power in the 1920s, and saw a sort of "revival" during the Civil Rights Movement. Sorry for such a late post about this video but i have only just got around to watching it( i was put off cause of glitter in it). It would not supprise me if Bill and Jim were in the crowd watching, and the pointed hoods completly covering the heads were to hide the fact they weren't on stage. Regarding unreleased mixes surfacing, i spoke to Bill on the phone a couple of times, once asking about the White Room Movie, he told me it hadn't come out how they wanted and so had chucked it in some box they put all their unwanted, scrapped and stuff that they didnt like the sound of into, and it sounded like they had chucked quite a lot in there. I would expect that the costumes were supposed to be reminiscent of an ancient occult organisation (the jams), but I am surprised that they were not interpreted as being cross burners by the uk public. This would appeal to the 'you what? you what? you what?' aspect of uk society.

To sum up, the whole performance is completely tongue in cheek by b&j, but is meant to represent the kind of elusive underworld mysteriousness of the (RAW) jams & the KKK and other organisations (real or fiction) which believe they have some connection to practices from hundreds/thousands of years ago.
I think b&j were intentionally being provocative in a mischievous kind of way in order to gain further publicity for their record. (no really?)
It can't just be dismissed as a 'novelty no.1' by bruno brookes, with imagery like that.

Well, when I saw the costumes, it didn't really remind me of the KKK completely.
Now that I look back on it, the only similarities I see between them are the pointed hats. Otherwise, I just don't really see the KKK when I see the JAMs performing on stage.
The KKK probably isn't as controversial in the UK as it is here in the USA. I don't believe they really branched out internationally. They reached the apex of their power in the 1920s, and saw a sort of "revival" during the Civil Rights Movement. Other than that, I'd probably see them as a fringe group today, compared to what they once were in the past.
