Installed anything new recently? Downloaded anything unusual? Visited a web page and clicked "yes" when Windows has asked to install something? Parent/younger sibling/partner been using the PC over the holiday? All these could be the cause of the problem... You could check your startup apps (Start/Programs/Startup) - anything in there that seems unusual? Alternatively, check the startup apps in the registry (\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run) for both HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Email me off list if you want/need more help! Step 1: Reformat your hard drive. Remove all traces of any Microsoft OS. Step 2: Install Linux (Recommend Mandrake 9.2 for beginners). Step 3: Never suffer from Microsoft-type virii again. There are over 65,000 known viruses that affect Microsoft Operating Systems - only 2 weak virus for Gnu/Linux. Step 4: Pull all hair out, Spend hours configuring linux, spend days customising it (KLF Themed desktop, icons etc). It's what I did when I got fed up of virii, unexpected crashes and having to pay over the odds for software. Andrew

This sounds like the Blaster worm problem. Visit http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.aspx?displaylang=en&categoryid=7 and get all the latest security patches for your particular OS. Andrew
