eBay madness (oh, it's so 2002)
If you scour eBay like I do, maybe this is too obvious to mention, but a big Kollector seems to be selling their (her?) stuff here: http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/leannebarrell Has Leanne Barrell ever posted here, I wonder? There's some choice cuts on-line, but possibly some of them have overly-optimistic reserves. There IS a credit crunch going on, after all! Good luck to Leanne anyway. Oh - and where IS everyone??????????? John
I am afraid nobody is about! Please call back later! The KLF thing gets more and more distant and having watched the Pet Shop Boys at the Brits, KLF should never have a come back, that was then and this is now. Its always interesting to find new 'old' things like the behind the scenes of the video shoots that appeared a while back. One day I must transfer the AAA advert and the rushes from the trilogy model, which include lots of shots of the train going wrong- maybe make a video for the cover version i did of last train? The Manual is a fascinating book, I have been reading it again recently as I am trying to make mixes of a single, maybe I can post clips of the mixes as I do them with any KLF related tips that went in along the way on this thread? ----- Original Message ----- From: John Milne To: klf@mailman.xmission.com Sent: Monday, February 23, 2009 9:32 AM Subject: [KLF] eBay madness (oh, it's so 2002) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you scour eBay like I do, maybe this is too obvious to mention, but a big Kollector seems to be selling their (her?) stuff here: http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/leannebarrell Has Leanne Barrell ever posted here, I wonder? Hello I've checked Leanne's stuff, I'd be interested, but most of it is up for highly inflated prices... And since our country's economy gonna collapse soon, I think I'll have other things to buy, like food and water :D Our money won't worth s**it soon... Hi All, I'm still here too, and recently I have had a thought. Daft Punk has won two Grammy Awards a few days ago, and I remember having a chat with them in which they have confirmed to have been influenced (among others) by The KLF. In fact I found that there were many similarities between Daft Punk and The KLF, more than in any case Scooter! 1 / the art of sampling 2 / costumes to hide their identity 3 / the scene in the shape of a pyramid during their concerts 4 / a film without dialogue (Electroma) What do you think of this? Interesting points. Scooter are ... well, they're very good at what they do, aren't they - which is making pop music for teenagers drinking cider up the park. And they've been doing it now for 15 years. Like Oasis in the UK, they initially hit on a formula (in its own way, far more lucrative than any KLF-style masterplan, because it's been more sustainable) and do not stray from the blueprint. The fact that they sprinkle their techno-pop with Drummond and Cauty references always seems incidental to their cheesy, irritating, child-friendly music. Or so it seems to me.
From the KLF's point of view, I always assumed the costume idea (covering the face, particularly) came specifically from the Residents, of whom Drummond has been a fan since the 1970s (I think it's "45" where he talks about going to a gig with one of the other Liverpool punk mob, and being unhappy at seeing grey hairs creeping out from behind the giant eyeball Residents helmets). The Daft Punk robots always reminded me on that chamber orchestra from the early 1980s that appeared as 18th century robotic violinists/oboeists and had a hit with something like "The Sinking of Venice" (although I'm so unsure of this, Google throws up nothing - anyone know the song I mean?) And I always thought the "White Room" movie escapade was the greatest of the KLF's many nods to the Pet Shop Boys - particularly their 1987 movie.
Although the chances are Daft Punk were influences by the PSB too! On Wed, Feb 25, 2009 at 11:15 AM, DJ Van Karl <dj_vankarl@hotmail.com>wrote:

I was briefly an English teacher back in 2002, and taught maurauding gangs on 12 years old in Peterhead who ALL loved Scooter. They simply couldn't believe that I liked the "old" music that the blonde guy from Scooter liked! But then, they couldn't believe that the Simpsons started before they were born either, so ... (None of which helped them get through "Charlotte's Web", of course!) On Thu, Feb 26, 2009 at 8:06 PM, jimmy crooks <jimmybhoy@hotmail.co.uk>wrote:

Not sure about the song but I guess "Rondo Veneciano" was the combo you could take a closer look at.
Thanks! That's precisely the right track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ej_wRgBS5lI (Note the comments mention the similarity to Daft Punk in the video - even the animation is a bit "One More Time") As a thank you, check this out, one of my favourite "things" ever to mention Venice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiV4F7HWHRk John On Thu, Feb 26, 2009 at 8:29 PM, cars10 <carsten@framed-dimension.de> wrote:
