He gets his papers ready, clears his throat... Then, suddenly
three or four d00dz at the front start chanting 'Mu Mu' softly in the
background. Bill is, to say the least, interrupted in his 'flow of
things' by this, frowns, looks around, locates these d00dz.... and thinks: "

IIRC, someone went up to him at another one of these things and asked him to autograph a copy of 1987 and Bill said something along the lines of "By doing this you have not only embarassed me but embarassed yourself" which, if it had been me would have been a huge letdown.  Fortunately I realized long ago that it's much cooler to say hi to a celeb than to beg for an autograph.

Anecdote - I worked at a hotel and we'd get biggies in on occasion.  It was policy NOT to ask for an autograph but treat celebs with respect.  But, dammit, as soon as a pro footballer stayed management seemed to forget this and brought all sorts of crap in for him to sign.
