I use a 1980s Sony PS-FL7II which I received as a gift in 1989 and hardly ever used. Audiophiles have advised me to buy a 1980s Technics and get it refurbed at a DJ shop for best results but can't afford this right now. Any 70s/80s turntable with a decent cartridge should provide good results though.
DanYep, I've been also told by many audiophile friends that USB turntables should be avoided at all cost.Sure they're handy and easy to setup, but results leave a lot to be desired.CheersXav

Everything I have ever read or heard indicates these USB turntables are all crap. For best quality a 1970s/1980s turntable (Technics are the best, but they ALL used to be better than what's on offer today) run through a good quality stereo receiver or RIAA preamp. I currently have a 16 bit/44.100 ArtCessories pre because it's the best reviewed one for the money, but am looking for a 24 bit/96.000 one for the archive.

Thanks everyone for sharing the high quality files. I'm loving the renewed
interest in this arKive project.
I agree with everything in the post below.

maybe true arKive should be built
thru the fab website archive.org
where we could put all their stuff
that ain't copyrighted by arista/sony
in FLAC format for free and forever
instead getting it on all those upload services.

i spoke with guys from Positive Void.
they said YES but not the copyrighted by BIG COMPANIES as they will take it
down...
regarding recordings from vinyl,
best option for transfer are turntables with USB direct to computer without
mixer, EQs, preamps etc
