THE BLACKSMOKE: 5-11 POST-TERRORIST MODERNISM (STAMP SET) FOR THE BOOM BANG GENERATION
The Blacksmoke Organisation are a multimedia collective dedicated to the propagation of audio visual noise.
On 5th November 2003 Blacksmoke release their second major visual work: "The Blacksmoke: 5-11 Post-Terrorist Modernist (stamp set) alongside a free downloadable DIY MP3 EP from their official website
www.blacksmoke.orgOn the night of 5th November, throughout Britain, Bonfires are set alight, effigies are burned and fireworks are set off in a ritualistic ceremony to commemorate our countries most notorious terrorist Guy Fawkes. Meanwhile, self-serving sophists in US & UK governments direct tax-payer funds to exercise political might for personal gain. As scientists debate the existence of Time and Catastrophe Theory, Blacksmoke continue on their mission: creativity that demands consideration and the release of art that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Blacksmoke acknowledge the futility of terrorism and the irrelevance of time. Any uncomfortable reaction to this new artwork might reflect the proximity of the subject. If Blacksmoke : 5-11 PTM depicted the destruction of government buildings in Baghdad or Kabul, would we pay any attention? The war on the war on terror starts here.
The symbolic choice of Big Ben – the international symbol of Universal Time – acknowledges the art collective’s rejection of time and the destructive nature of society’s dominant philosophy in proposing the first step to revealing nature must be the analysis of the system and its ultimate constituents. The belief in immutable principles upon which all ethics may be founded is not only a prejudice but an impediment which must be removed for our society to evolve. Ethics must be applied equitably.
Embracing Gestalt Theory, Blacksmoke propose we face our problems head-on instead of following the predictable path of avoiding the issue by obsessing over the individual parts upon which it was built. There is no spoon. There were no weapons of mass destruction.
As nothing is changing, Time no longer exists. War is over (if you want it).
What Time is Love?
We must reject this primitive and almost cannibalistic delusion about knowledge, that an understanding of something requires first that we dismantle it, like a child who pulls a watch to pieces and spreads out the wheels in order to understand the mechanism…(Rene Thom, 1923-2002)
