Well,

Obviously I’m planning it, for when the car is ready…… just another week until it arrives by the way. I anticipate driving to Spain in about March or April 2011.

If you want to go during decent weather it’s quite pricey on the old ferry, a return trip to Santander during the summer months is going to set you back about 600 – 700 quid for 2 people. Then there’s the 1250 mile round trip to reach the southern part of Spain.

Or, you could get a cheap ferry to France and drive down through France to Spain, but that’s a 2500 mile round trip before you’ve even done any sight seeing.

We plan to catch the Ferry to Santander, drive down to Tabernas via the Sierra Nevada, which is a more manageable 1250 miles before we’ve deviated from the path.

We’re not planning on using too much accommodation, rather building a fire and opening the beans if you catch my drift………… perhaps we’ll check in to a comfortable hotel every 2 or 3 days. My brother and I did a similar sort of thing when we drove from South New Zealand to Auckland and also when we drove from Los Angeles to New York in a week.

What sort of mileage to the gallon will your KITT do? We’re looking at between 17 and 20 to the gallon on the Ford apparently.

What about a bus tour rather than a road trip?

The building also appears in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9YsRSsAtY8 which is absolutely dripping with imagery cribbed from the White Room.

I remember posting a bit about this a couple of years ago.  The building, the village, the castle and the observatory in "The White Room" movie are all in Andalucia in Spain.   The observatory is linked to a university (can't remember which one) and is available for guided tours.  The castle, I seem to remember, was a rock star's home at one point (it's hollow on the inside, like a Roman villa).  The castle also appears in the David Essex movie Stardust, and I did a post about that to my inverarities blog, some time in May 2008.

Sorry I can't be more specific but it was a long time ago!  :-))
