I don’t know… we go away for a week and suddenly the list springs back to life… must have been all that weird enochian chanting.
Anyway although I am pretty sure there are one or two other ancients lurking on this list that can recall back to the late 90s and I guess the forensic archive-ologists amongst us might be able to dig up the actual emails – this is the ancient and justified history of Made @ 3am Coming Down Off E
Sometime in the early to mid 1990s I had the good fortune to encounter a guy who said he either ran or worked at Wau Mr Modo records… He professed to have fallen on severely hard times and was selling off some very rare and “specialist” items… Amongst the items that I bought was a desk tape simply labelled “Made at 3am KLF coming down off e”… He told me that he knew both Alex and Jimmy really well back in the day and that often after finishing their resident set at a club in London called “Heaven” everyone would crash back at Jimmy’s squat in Stockwell (Trancentral)… Their Jimmy and Alex (and others - unspecified) would “mess around” with sounds and samples building strange sound-scapes that everyone would just chill out and listen too… Often the sessions would be recorded through the monitor desk and these tapes would then end up in the library of recordings that could be used as a backdrop to a future live set over which new samples could be layered.
Fast forward to 1998 / 99… Gimpo and I are on the M25 Spin discussing how we can raise funds to help pay for the project… MAD (a frequent spinner) suggests that I could sell my KLF collection and pay for the next 23 years… Not a serious suggestion but it did sew a seed of thought that ultimately led to us producing the limited edition run of just 100 CD-Rs “Made @ 3am Coming Down Off E”.
Although Gimpo knew both Bill and Jimmy well I had not met either of them personally at this time so I asked Gimpo to give Jimmy a copy of the disc and ask if it was ok to release it… The reply we got was basically: we do not have a problem with low key piracy / copyright infringement but asking for our permission is just stupid… it is like a thief breaking in and stealing our stuff then asking if it is ok to sell it on… To say the least the “thief” reference un-nerved me but as I had bought the tape and not taken it from the desk personally I felt at least one part removed and as the disc was not going to be a commercially released item but strictly made available through the mailing list I figured that 100 CD-Rs only constituted “low key” bootlegging so we went ahead with our first Positive Void Communications release.
We did not sell all 100 copies at the time… probably because of the pretty steep price tag I put on it (although at that time KLF rarities were still fetching heavy prices)
After the release one of the list members (Eric Gander) contacted me and said he had two other shorter recordings (20 mins + whereas Made @ 3am is 45 mins) that were similar but not as deep as Made @ 3am… he said that he had bought the recordings as “ChillOut2” and “ChillOut3” and had been told they were by Alex… He copied the tracks and sent them to me and from what I heard there was obviously some crossover of the sounds in all three recordings.
Several years later (2004 / 05 I think) someone joined the mailing list and posted that he had been responsible for recording CO2 & CO3 and that Alex had nothing to do with it… although he didn’t claim Made @ 3am as his… I have no clue “who” this guy is as I never communicated with him however I believe that other list members did and were for the most part convinced of his honesty.
I don’t know whether any of the above improves the discussion but I for one am delighted that the list has found new life…

Subject: Re: [KLF] Chill Out
Sessions
My understanding is this work was the product of a KLF fan in 1993
(this was discussed many years ago on the list and the original mixer came
forward somewhat surprised by the acclaim for his work if I remember
correctly). Not to take-away from it as it's a cool mix, but not official I
believe. PVC knows for sure.

Even so, they're a very old piece of the bootleg jigsaw (assuming they're not early "Chill Out" dry runs but instead a fan mixes). They've been kicking around since about 1993, I think (in their CO2 and CO3 forms) as has the "Wolf in the Jungle" mix, which (allegedly) has something to do with LXD.

Gotta be honest, I'm certain that these are not KLF releases. More
likely they are a fan's reproduction, it's more like a chilled
megamix.
It just doesn't sound authentic. It's too busy, there's too much going on.
It's just not what the KLF is about....................
Over and out.

My attention has been drawn to these youtube videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnirYDoFrXI (and there are many more)
It suggests they are outtakes from a double CD. Can anyone shed any light on what they are and if the are available anywhere
Cheers

Where Can I download these session from in audio form? Other than converting them from the youtube videos.
