The group wich at the time was Cauty and Paterson signed with Big Life in late 1989. But Cauty departed in april 1990. He had wished to take Paterson and The Orb on board the KLF Communications set up... There was no little acrimony at the time and Cauty re-recorded the album which was to have been the Orbs debut, deleting Patersons Contributions and naming it Space. (I read this in the book - The Guiness whos, who of rap, dance and Techno, back in 94. -K.
While browsing for early Orb information, I came across this 1992 discography: http://www.textfiles.com/music/DISCOGRAPHY/orb.txt Note that if you scroll down, it lists "Space" as the Orb's abandoned debut LP, along with an intended song selection (some of which can be found on later bootleg CDs). It seems to have a release date of 5th March 1989 (although that was a Sunday) ... anyone know if it was ever pencilled in for release? I would be surprised if their first ambient LP was being planned as early as "Tripping On Sunshine", but you never know. Also, apart from the promo photos briefly glimpsed on the "Eternity Project One" sleeve (where they are orbscured by fake moustaches, sunglasses and trapper hats) does anyone know if there are any photos of Jimmy and Alex when they were together in the Orb? Also also ... I can't help wonder if with this tracklisting it might be quite easy to sow tracks together and create a rough approximation of what the original "Space" album would have looked like. What do people think?
