Hi all,
TLDR: does 1987 Vinyl LP ever have the songs in a different order?
*Background:*
Many years ago (probably around 1991, as it was after Last Train and 3AM
eternal were released) my father and I were at a record fair somewhere in
Sydney (likely Parramatta, but I don't recall for sure).
He bought a copy of 1987. I was only 16 or 17. Dad's very into music and
he wanted to keep it with his collection.
He made a cassette copy of it for me. I listened to it a lot. There was
enough room on the tape to put three Disco2000 songs as well as 2K "F*ck
the Millenium", so he must have had these as well, though I have absolutely
no memory of him obtaining them, unless he borrowed them from someone.
I didn't know about the story behind 1987 at the time. I only knew that I
liked the music.
I haven't listened to this tape for YEARS but I still have it (along with
his copy that he did of "Shag Times" for me.)
When I joined the original KLF yahoo group (late 90s? early 2000s? and this
mailing list, I started to learn more about the KLF and their
controversies.
Over the years I’ve quietly wondered whether he had the original 1987 or if
he had "the edits". Recently I thought I really need to just listen to the
tape and find out.
So I listened today. The songs are all complete, so it seems that it's an
original copy of 1987 rather than "the edits".
*My question:*
The songs on my cassette tape are in a different order than everything I’m
seeing online. Dad would have had no reason to tape the songs in a
different order than was on the album (I know this because of other things
he taped for me - the only change he made was to omit two songs from an
compilation album when I was 13 because he thought they were "too heavy").
I’ve also read that the song listing on the record doesn’t actually match
what’s on the record, but can't find any images of what the original LP
shows for the song list. I've seen images of CDs but don't seem to be able
to find images of this part of the LP.
So thought I'd ask here and see if anyone has any insight on this? Do we
think there's any chance my dad recorded the songs out of order? Or are
there versions of 1987 with the songs in a different order?
Online I find the song listing in this order and there's even a full
youtube video which matches this.
1. Hey Hey We Are Not The Monkees
2 .Mind the Gap
3. Don't Take Five (Take What You Want)
4. Rockman Rock Parts 2 And 3
5. Why Did You Throw Away Your Giro?
6. Me Ru Con
7. The Queen And I
8. Top Of The Pops
9. All You Need is Love
10. Next
Listening to my cassette, the songs are in this order:
1. Top Of The Pops
2. All You Need is Love
3 .Mind the Gap
4. Don't Take Five (Take What You Want)
5. Hey Hey We Are Not The Monkees
6. Me Ru Con
7. Next
8. Rockman Rock Parts 2 And 3
9. Why Did You Throw Away Your Giro?
10. The Queen And I
My handwritten listing on the cassette sleeve is:
All you need is love 7:44
Don't Take Five: 5:08
Hey Hey we are Not the Monkees 6:08
Me Ru Con 2:27
Next 7:14
Rockman Rock Parts 1 & 2 7:13
The Queen & I 4:45
And if anyone's curious about the extra songs:
Disco2000
I gotta CD 6:46 (this one is my favourite of the three disco2000 songs)
One Love Nation 6:02
Feel This 5:35
2K- F*ck the Millenium 4:00
Thank you to anyone who might have some thoughts on this!

Hi all,
Unfortunately I need to raise some cash so have had to place some items on ebay. Pete Robinson book Justified And Ancient History The Unfolding Story Of The KLF 4009726257, and loads of original biogs and info direct from Trancentral 4009725194.
I know this is a shameless plug, but needs must.

Hi everyone,
I managed to get hold of a copy of "Justified Ancient History" on e-bay
a few weeks ago. I thought others on the list might like to read it too
(if they don't own a copy already) and have set up a Yahoo Group with
scans of each page in the photos section:
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/klf-history/
I hope you enjoy it!
John

All,
Many, many, many years ago, by which I mean about Nov 1991, I operated the
first internet KLF interest list (under my still-occasionally-used
pseudonym "Culf"). It was crude, just a roughly-two-weekly newsletter
compiled by me and sent to an ever-increasing Bcc: list of addresses with
notes and contributions being sent from all over the world.
Anyway, you don't need the gory details, but I had to give it up just as
the KLF appeared to be imploding in May 1992, and Lazlo took over the
mantle in November, making it a "proper" internet discussion mailing list.
It will maybe be interesting to look back and try and document that history
some time ...
To the present day, as has been discussed, Lazlo is no longer really
active, and the list has been in sore need of some moderation lately. Mike
Brown and I have attempted to reach out to Lazlo, who I've occasionally
exchanged odd words with over the years, but nothing substantial. Anyway,
he hasn't responded, so with the help of the folks at xmission, I've been
made (potentially interim) list owner.
There are various list matters to be handled, such as pages of held
postings. Some will be spam, some might be so old they are not worth
forwarding on now, and some will be worth releasing. But note they may be
quite old so you may start to see messages relating to conversations from a
very long time ago!
I've updated the list description a bit:
https://lists.xmission.com/postorius/lists/klf.mailman.xmission.com/
The list itself isn't exactly super-active these days. For better or
worse, most of the action happens in the Facebook groups. I know some here
want nothing to do with that! Not yet clear if additional moderators are
needed, but drop me a private note to express an interest. Previous list
moderation experience always helpful for that not always necessary.
Perhaps this list no longer really serves a useful purpose, but at least
now if that's the case we have the ability to put it to rest with some
dignity. Or, if we still want it, let's try and get it a bit active.
If you think anything needs attending/updating/whatever, let me know.
There were some issues with the archives but I think they got resolved a
couple of years ago, on the other hand the archives may not even be
complete.
Jethro (or, as in the old days, Culf).

Any chance we can get someone to ban whoever it is that’s sending loads of
blank messages?
Cheers!
