"I went ahead and downloaded the "de-mastered" WhiteRoom" LOL! :-) "Loudness" is not what makes a piece of music well engineered. Yes modern dance music like house and drum'n'bass use clever compression to make everything sound loud, but that dosn't necessarily mean you should attempt to employ that same method to anything that takes your fancy. The bottom line here is, you cant add compression, limitation etc on tracks that ALREADY have such processing on them because then you just kill the dynamics of the recordings. At the time of writing this i am blaring "The White Room" from the album of the same name in my Tannoys, and it sounds as crisp, punchy and down right brilliant as it always did! Sorry to be a black sheep here but i am not into this concept. I work as a sound engineer by trade and this just jars with me :-( These albums in there original form were wonderfully engineered and do not require "re-mastering". I am a big fan of the Cybercosis trance remixes of the KLF tunes, you guys did a really good job there, and there is major credit due! :-) But re-jigging albums that were mastered by talented engineers in major studios is not a good idea. Commercial albums that are "re-mastered" are done from the original recordings - not from MASTERED recordings. You are adding dynamic processing on top of what is already there? It just dosn't make sense. I am at a loss how you can engineer a track that has already been engineered by some of the industry's most talented people????? I salute your want for general fun as KLF fans but i in no way see how you could better Mark Stent's' work on these classic KLF albums? Sorry to be a sour puss but really wanted to make this feeble point! Please stick to what you do best i.e. remixing the KLF back cat into new and interesting versions and not attempting to better the engineering of their classic albums. Very well said man! :-) "i am also an engineer- i am sure they could be louder but there was never a quality issue on the white room cd- reloading and working on them wont 'improve' quality, you could get them louder or more 'this' or 'that'. lucy, why are you so upset over what to my eye appears to be rather mild criticism? i understand you put in a lot of effort and love into this project but the scalding vitriol you are spewing at your fellow list members for posing politely posited questions gives the impression that you havent slept since you stayed up for three days and nights in the studio finishing your remasters. so please...have a hot bath and a hot chocolate...get some sleep... and then get cracking on those rarities that EVERYONE agrees could use a bit of love. your dedication is admirable but your energy is wasted on abusing the rest of us mortals. and oh yeah... good luck with the tits. xe " Niec things an luck wil chase me evrydai an I wil liv in teh Ceiling Cats houz forevr."
