"Just wondering about an advert for triple A- is tis something that is in the public domain as in on the RMS server?" If you go into a record shop and stick a box set under your coat, it doesn't magically void the copyright on the material in that set. RM uploading something to his server doesn't suddenly make Jimmy Cauty's death take place 70 years ago.

OT urgent DVD ripping help!

Could anyone direct me to a good quality and free DVD ripper, which would convert DVDs to mpegs? Also, Windows Movie Maker doesn't seem to like mpegs to edit (it only seems to see their audio). Anyone know of mpeg editting software? Something of the quality and simplicity of CDex would be perfect! :-) I'm hoping to rip and upload some vids to Youtube. Any suggestions gratefully recieved. John

Good lord - who'd ever have thought a query would have illicited so many responses! Most usages of "owned" (never have seen "pwned" on Youtube) seem to relate to films that The Young People would like, admittedly. To be honestly, I always thought "owned" related to that delightful Glasgow expression "claimed" - as in, "you're claimed, ye wee prick!" followed by a blade to the face. oT - Witchcraft

Witchcraft were a USA duo who composed music of a highly imaginative and original style that was years ahead of its time. Gothic Ambient electronic music verging on industrial, dark but with melody and tremendous atmosphere, their inventive use of rhythms, vocoder and guitar was both innovative and sensational. Although Witchcraft have sadly disbanded, these two albums remain perennial favorites and are testament to a genuinely original talent that produced a genuinely original sound. Does anyone have these albums? A couple of interesting quandries ... (1) you're in your local HMVirgin, and you see a copy. Heart beating faster with thoughts of Ebay riches, you go to the counter and the assistant goes "oh, sorry, this is one of those doctored albums ... I'd better give you a real one instead" What can you do? If you steal one from the shop, instead of trying to pay £16.99 for it, will you get done for shoplifting? If the assistant spots it's "wrong" one, can you say "well, it's not your CD to sell is it?" and take the disc home for free. In a situation like that, I find the issue of ownership quite interesting. (2) How many megastore managers are sitting on £1000s of art to sell on Ebay right now? Does Banksy have a lot of mates, putting CDs in racks up and down the country - or is the "all over the UK" statement a bit of an exaggeration? Will I find one in both Perth and Penzance Megastores? (3) Has anyone been stupid enough to buy one, then take it back to complain, unaware of the media fuss? (4) It's all a lot of fun - but taking the piss out of Paris Hilton is a bit "popbitch", isn't it? It's hardly the zeitgeist=hugging we'd expect from art terrorism.
