A shame the CD doesn't also include "I Want that Girl (Version)" (an instrumental featuring Henry Crowther on saxophone, from what I can remember) and the edit of the Manager's Speech - and the movie as an mpeg! :-) My reissue of the Lilac Time's "Astronauts" includes extensive liner notes written this year by Stephen Duffy. I wonder if "The Man" will include similar words from Bill ... I remember about a year ago someone on the list said he was using "King of Joy" at art events as a soundtrack, so despite previous protestations, he might have quite a good memory - and be quite fond - of his solo adventures! It's being re-released by Castle Communications. They have run a series of "Creation Records" re-releases this year, including "best ofs" the BMX Bandits and the Boo Radleys, and last month they they brought out 1991's "Astronauts" album by the Lilac Time with extra tracks. It seems like they're cherry-picking the Creation catalogue that hasn't already been re-released by Sony. And if, as mentioned in the "Magpie Eyes" book, the KLF had signed with Alan McGee to Creation back in 1987, we might have had their re-releases too, now ... Having briefly thought this through, here are my opinions for what they are worth on the various options available: FTP - Despite recent squabbles this has been a great resource when it is fully functioning and Rob deserves more kudos for hosting this than he often gets. I admit i haven't connected for a year or so as i replaced my computer and haven't got around to getting a decent ftp client but back then i had no trouble connecting using cuteftp. Downloads were a little slow admittedly but I understand Olav's mirror is faster...is this still in use? If we could iron out the problems and raise those download speeds somehow, its still a pretty good option. Either cuteftp or flashfxp has some sort of unlimited trial version and is pretty easy to configure, and it should remain pretty much exclusive to the list and, ahem, 'true fans' thus not open to abuse Bit Torrent - Personally i use this but find it rather fiddly to configure (especially with a router, port forwarding and all that) and rather slow even when getting files that are seeded by many...usually between 0 and 5 kbp/s, sometimes up to 12-15 but rarely faster. Perhaps I am missing something, but when I tried a torrent from what i assume was some sort of static server (rather than a bunch of people's PCs) i got around 50 kbp/s, so again if someone could host all the stuff on a static server i guess it could work (for the record this torrent was the Star Wars 'fan film' Revelations) Otherwise the issue of who would seed what and when would be a pretty enormous stumbling block Online Archive - For me the ideal option would be a site/archive which hosts all of the stuff collected so far, with room for more, from an 'always on' server but utilizing the common username/password system for access. Then we could have either a moderator to whom one would apply for the pass, or a pass that changes monthly published on this list, or indeed a combination of the two whereby the moderator(s) mail all the users of the archive on a monthly basis with the new password. The major issue here of course is who has this amount of webspace, and would they be willing to reset the passwords etc. Any more ideas or thoughts? tbc. --------------------------------- Yahoo! for Good Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.

Yup. I can't connect to the ftp, either, but East 17's "Stay Another Day" was UK Christmas number one in 1994. It was subsequently covered by the band Candidate in 1999. Have no idea about a KLF relevance ... unless it's from a "christmas hits" compilation along with "J & A". P2P sites WinMX, eDonkey appear shut down

September 22, 2005 - 10:43 EST Reuters is reporting this morning that P2P file-sharing site WinMX.com has ceased operation, and that eDonkey's New York offices appear to have closed. The turmoil among file-sharing networks follows the landmark ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court in June that held anyone who distributes a device used to infringe copyright is liable for the resulting acts of infringement by others. In the wake of the decision, the trade group Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) last week sent out "cease-and-desist" letters to seven file-sharing groups.
