OBITUARY - Cheryl Gross - Page/Lake Powell
Cheryl Gross passed away on Aug. 14, 2024, in St. George, Utah, after complications from a serious fall. For those of you who may not be aware.. Cheryl was the originator and main reason for the Page Car show Now called the Lake Powell Cruisers Car Show Cheryl and her Sister Mari Davis put their heads together and came up with The greatest fresh ideas, which many others have cloned and are still being used in shows today. The Hot wheels Racing track "Competition" .. Awards like... Coziest Back Seat, Best Danglers, Cool Cruiser, M.L.P.O (Most likely to peel out) Baddest license plate, Shiniest Chrome, Snazziest Convertible, Coolest Tricked out Motor I have heard it said, Angels are always around us, I Know for a fact Cheryl was one of them.. (I just never knew Angels could be great Poker Players ! too) Cheryl had a giving heart, if you knew her, you were an instant friend. You could never leave her home without a cool and unique Gift. She built Bird houses, Spiders, all custom made in your favorite colors Mine were either Checkered, or Black & White It became our tradition to have our dance, each year without fail No matter how she felt, she would make sure to stop by the car show I would put on her favorite song, . Hold Me, thrill me, Kiss me.. At first, I knew she was dancing with her late husband.. But, after a few years,,, it really was just her,, and me! When I was with KCPX/KDYL, while on one of our visits Cheryl asked me to download our station live stream.. When I connected, the song "on air" playing was . Hold me, Thrill me, Kiss me She swore up and down I called the station and had them play it for her. But, I didn't!, it really was one of those mysterious things, . that just "happen" ! Meeting Cheryl was fate, just as her song playing that day.. I am so lucky to have someone as special as Cheryl in my life,, as one of my most special friends.. I have her sister Mari to thank for that !! And I do, with all my heart.. Friends like Cheryl are "Forever Friends" I will surely miss her. Sincerely, respectfully, and lovingly,.. J.C Hackett **** **** **** **** Cheryl graduated with honors from Rapid City High School in 1961 at age 16. She played the piano and the viola in both her high school and city orchestras. She loved math and could add columns of numbers in her head without a calculator (a skill that came in handy when she organized "Thunder on the Lake," turning the Canyon King paddle wheeler into a casino.) Armed with her ever-present yellow legal pad, Cheryl could organize the world, or at least her close family and friends. She worked for ARAMARK and during that time, she was the editor of Leisure Times and a staff writer for the Lake Powell Magazine. Cheryl was instrumental in planning the Lake Powell Parade of Lights and starting the Page Car Show. This year Cheryl was an honorary judge at the Car Show and presented a plaque in her name. (With family appreciation to J.C. Hackett.) Cheryl planned her sister's and her daughter's weddings; she organized poker parties, houseboat trips, and family gatherings. Cheryl loved music (every generation of her family can sing the lyrics to songs from the late 50s and early 60s because of her.) She loved nature, thunderstorms, and Captain Morgan. She created unique crafts (including intricately-constructed beaded spiders and very unique Bird Houses) she shared those with her friends, family and finally, the doctors and nurses at the hospital. Cheryl, a longtime resident of Page, was happily married to John Gross, together they enjoyed houseboating, membership in the Elks Club, interacting with their friends and family until his death in 1997. Cheryl is survived by her stepson Jack (Mary) Gross, son Mark (Christy) Waldman, daughter Melanie (Mark) Suttie, grandchildren Kariann (Dylan) Waldman, Amanda (Brant) Parker and Matthew (Brittany) Suttie, and great-grandchildren Claire, Kaydee, Nathan, Della and Nolan, her sister Mari (Ron) Davis, niece Jannifer (Pete) Young and their children Christian, Pierce and Penelope. The family would like to thank Tim Daniels for his loving care of Cheryl. Date and location of Cheryl's Celebration of Life to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please donate to her favorite charity, St. Jude's.
