Location: Living Traditions Washington Square, Salt Lake City & County Building, 450 South 200 East Welcome to the twenty-fourth annual Living Traditions Festival: A Celebration of Salt Lake’s Folk and Ethnic Arts. At this celebration of the traditional cultures of the many groups, native and immigrant, that make Salt Lake their home, the whole community can enjoy a diversity of authentic foods, music, dance and crafts. Presented on the grounds of the beautifully restored Salt Lake City & County Building, Living Traditions brings together people of all ages and backgrounds to share the Festival experience. Each year, many artists return to perform, demonstrate their craft and share the traditional foods of their culture while new artists and groups join the celebration as well. The Living Traditions Festival brings the community together and supports the ethnic communities in maintaining their sense of identity and pride. Local ethnic artists – craftspeople, dancers, musicians, and chefs – are at the heart of Living Traditions. They teach us about the techniques, styles, tools and materials that are used in their respective artforms, many of which are centuries old. We build on our diversity by bringing featured guest artists to perform, presenting music that might not otherwise be heard in our community, contributing to the overall celebration. Through the Living Traditions Festival, we recognize the contributions that artists, who preserve cultural traditions in every community, make to our sense of place and the depth of our cultural experiences. At Living Traditions, we hope you learn about and experience the many sights, sounds, and flavors presented for all to enjoy. We invite you to join with the many Living Traditions participants – in a spirit of mutual respect and understanding – to celebrate Salt Lake’s rich and diverse cultures.
