A limited number of scholarships for students who wish to study the Italian language and culture in Italy are offered by Italian language schools and centers through the Italian Cultural Institute in San Francisco. The scholarships cover all or part of the tuition only. The students may have to pay enrollment fees.

Limitations
Applicants must reside in the Institute’s area of jurisdiction:
Alaska, California (except the following counties that are under the jurisdiction of the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles: Imperial Valley, Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Santa Barbara, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Ventura) Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington, American Territories of Samoa, American Territory of Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Johnston Atoll, Wake Island, Midways Islands.

Applicants must also have a valid IIC membership. Prospective students should visit the schools’ websites to obtain all the information on the courses and services offered. The IIC declines any responsibility regarding the quality of the courses or services offered. However, the IIC will ask students to write a brief report on their experience in Italy, evaluating all teaching and organizational aspects of the centers.

Travel, Room and Board Expenses
Travel, room, and board expenses are of the sole responsibility of the scholarship recipients, who will be assisted in the search for accommodation by the language center offering the scholarship.

Communication with the Italian Schools
Once the scholarship has been awarded, all communication and relations will be handled exclusively between the scholarship recipients and the selected school, without the IIC as intermediary.

Criteria
Scholarships are assigned primarily to Italian teachers and students of Italian language and culture and also to those interested in the study of Italian for their jobs or for the preservation of their Italian heritage. All scholarships are awarded strictly on a merit basis.

All applicants must submit the attached application form, a copy of their resume’, and a letter of recommendation from a professor or language instructor. The application should be sent to:

May 10 for courses between July 1 and September 30

August 10 for courses between October 1 and December 31

November 10 for courses between January 1 and March 31
