Micah Christensen
Each week, a new lecture will focus on an artist or artwork that was once highly-regarded, but which — through the accidents of history or changes in aesthetics tastes — has since become obscure. Exploring each work within the oeuvre of the artist and the larger context of the period, the lecture will attempt to re-establish an appreciation for those artists who deserve to be remembered for their contributions.
We invite you and your friends to hear Micah present his lecture series.
All lectures on Wednesday evenings from 4:30 - 5:30pm, at the Beaux Arts Academy.
Forgotten Masters Lecture Series for May 13, 2015
ABOUT THE SERIES
Every other week we explore the life and work of artists who were once highly regarded and influential; but, who have since fallen into relative obscurity. The lecture is geared towards a broad audience — from those who simply love art to experienced artists and scholars. Each lecture is free and lasts about 90 minutes.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
JOACHIM PATINIR (Belgian, 1480 - 1524)
For the next lecturing in our ongoing series, we discuss the life, work, and influence of Joachim Patinir , considered to be the father of landscape painting. A pioneer of oil painting, Patinir depicted epic scenes from mythology, history, and scripture in jewel-like colors and remarkably small scale. His works were collected by Kings and influenced a generation of painters, including Pieter Bruegel and Peter Paul Rubens. Yet today, we are only aware of a handful of works. Join us as we remember and celebrate his work.
