Marina News For the Week of April 22, 2008 Lake Level: 4195.9 (we have dropped 3/10's of a foot in the last six weeks) Snowpack 109% Water Temperatures 54 degrees Lake Level Assessment We have had an abmormally windy spring season. This creates higher than normal evaporation rates. Although the lake has been drooping this spring, I would expect a heavy runoff coming soon. I'm still thinking we will see nearly two feet rise by early June. Drought It appears the GSL Drainage is now out of the drought. There are some areas in the extreme northen part of the drainage basin that are still listed as "Abnormally Dry" Short and Long Term Season Outlook Next 10 days: Above average temperatures / Below average precipitation Next 8 - 14 days: Average temperatures / Below average precipitation Next Month: Average temperatures / Average precipitation Next Three Months: Above average temperatures / Below average precipitation We are going into a warmer, drier spell. Tomorrow's Storm The wind and weather charts show tomorrow's storm as being much more mild than the last two fronts that passed through the marina. Boat Registrations The bulk of the boats in the Great Salt Lake Marina have registrations that expire at the end of this month. I have been informed that the rangers will be walking the marina the first week of June checking on compliance. Water to the Docks and Pump-a-head Low temperatures have reaked havoc on our plans to turn the water on. Well, it appears we are now able to finally get things going. We hope to have all the water on by Thursday afternoon. This includes water to all the docks and water to the service dock (pump-a-head and porta potty rinse station). Nossles for the pump-a-head are at the ranger station. We used to leave them connected to the pump-a-head but they kept disappearing. We recommend buying your own so you do not have to rely on someone being in the ranger office. Mast Hoist It works quite well. Please secure it after use. If left unsecured it could swing in the wind and do damage to Rescue One or a boat using the serivce dock. Parking Lot Lights We are working on reconfiguring both the parking lot lights and the lights at the top of the gangways. The main lightpoles in the middle of the parking lot have been turned off. These poles will be removed this summer (too many cars seem to hit them). The lights at the top of the gangways are being turned to light the parking lot. This summer we will be installing additional lights that will face down the gangways. These lights will be energy efficient and will either have photocells or motion sensors. Launch Ramp Closures The launch ramp will have limited access tomorrow. "Island Serenade" will be pulled out of the water. Salt Island Adventures will need the whole parking lot for the truck/trailer and crane. We will try to have this closure as short as possible. No other closures are anticipated.
