Reynold's Cup OFFICIAL RESULTS
Another absolutely classic Reynolds Cup (80 Miler) has come to an end. And it goes down as one of the fastest on record. But it appears the old record for the fastest race by Hobie Alter on a Hobie 33 did not fall. Jack Reynolds conceived of this race back in the 1970's. He was adamant that the race had to be a minimum of 80 miles long. After nearly 4 decades it remains the classic race to test crew and boat. It is greatly anticipated, sometimes feared, and occasionally loathed. But it always provides an adventure. I have lost count how many times I have raced the Reynolds cup in the last 40 years. I even raced it once on my Hobie 20. What a ride! I have fond memories. And yet there are those out there who have raced it far more times than I. All the participants had great stories this morning. From knockdowns, broken stanchions, water in the cockpit, one broken rudder, seven foot seas, ripped sails, seasickness, 30 to 50mph winds most of the race, and just plain exhaustion. We are working on compiling some of the stories along with pictures and videos. I hope to have those up on www.gslmairna.com by the end of this week. Next year we hope to have GPS trackers on all the boats so those who are interested can follow the race from home. And now it is time for the OFFICIAL results as scored by Great Salt Lake Yacht Club rules. The race was scored Time-On-Time based on Heavy Air conditions. 1st Place: Hakuna Matata Uncorrected Time: 16:19:30 Corrected Time: 15:06:30 2nd Place: Bodhisattva Uncorrected Time: 14:41:41 Corrected Time: 15:09:57 Difference: 3:27 minutes 3rd Place: Empty Space Uncorrected Time: 14:16:35 Corrected Time: 15:19:24 Difference: 12:54 minutes (LINE HONORS) 4th Place: Redstripe Uncorrected Time: 16:42:00 Corrected Time: 16:35:49 Difference: 1:16:25 Race Committee: Nine & Change DNF Exodus DNF Windancer Congratulations to the winners and all who participated a race where Great Salt Lake truly tested everyone.
