Both Great Salt Lake Ranger Base and Antelope Island Ranger Base will be monitoring Marine Band 16. If there is an emergency and you have cell phone coverage here is a list of numbers you can call for help: Dave Shearer (Harbor Master) 2 alpha 160 - 801-209-9142 John Sullivan (Asst. Park Manager) 2 alpha 10 - 801-230-6155 Or Call 911 and ask them to contact the above people. Give the Dispatch the 2 alpha number listed to speed up contact. If you do not cell phone coverage use Marine Band 16 and call for either the Harbor Master or call Mayday. Mayday instructions follow below. SAFE HARBOR We have an agreement with all the other marinas on the lake for Safe Harbor in case of an emergency. The accessible marinas are: Antelope Island Marina: 41° 03.830 x 112° 14.398 Promontory Marina: 41° 12.160 x 112° 25.701 Stansbury Marina: 40° 55.959 x 112° 30.725 The East Trescend and the West Trescend are also accessible in case of an emergency. The east and west Trescend are where the causeway makes a bend and these areas form a protected cove along the causeway. It is possible to get a boat into these coves. The coordinates for the two trescends are: East Trescend: 41° 13.032 x 112° 31.865 West Trescend: 41° 13.243 x 112° 45.336 Hazards and Other Conditions USGS has several buoys in the north half of the race course. It is likely you will encounter some of these buoys. Please keep a lookout for these buoys. Deadheads have not been seen for some time in this area. But an encounter with a deadhead is still possible. Keep a sharp lookout for the buoy. The currents are running very strong right now. These currents are especially strong north of Antelope Island, and near Miller Point on Fremont Island. The course has been set so the rhumb line keeps everyone in deep water. Keep a good distance off Antelope Island near Cambria Point and Buffalo Point to avoid shallows and reefs. There is also a large shallow shelf that juts out from Promontory Point to the southwest. Do not veer too far north of the rhumb line from Miller Point buoy to 80 Lakeside buoy. There is also a very shallow area just south of the railroad causeway. Keep at least a mile off the causeway to stay of this very shallow hump. But if you need to approach East Trescend or West Trescend (see above) the water is deep enough at those to points to approach them. IF YOU HAVE A SERIOUS SITUATION CALL MAYDAY Instructions In the event of an emergency, there are procedures to follow, which may vary depending on the type of situation. Mayday calls are for extreme emergencies, while Pan Pan calls are reserved for urgent, but not life threatening situations. Mayday calls are only for medical emergencies or if your vessel is in grave or imminent danger. Include the following information, in this order, to assist rescue personnel: 1. MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY 2. Vessel Name 3. Your current location 4. Type of emergency 5. Type of assistance needed 6. Number of people on board and the conditions of any injured people 7. Condition of your vessel 8. Description of your vessel. Wait for a response. Please get all the information out in the above order before waiting for a response. Just because you cannot hear a response does not mean you are not being heard. That is why it is important to get all the information out before waiting for a response. Repeat the message if you do not get a response. Please review the list of Safe Harbors as well as the Trescend locations. You may be directed to head towards one of those locations in a medical assistance emergency as these are areas where we can get life flight to. Forecast The forecast is for sunny conditions on Saturday with a high near 80 degrees. The low for early Sunday morning is for 57 degrees. We have a southerly wind flow coming in on Saturday. Winds will build most of the day to 15 to 25mph. Winds will begin to taper off some in the evening. There is a good chance of strong drainage winds from the west as you sail along the causeway towards 80 Lakeside buoy. Have fun . . .
