GSL Slip Renters, I know many of you are contemplating the cruise this weekend with the yacht club. Some of you have been writing or calling me about the expected conditions so I'm going out on a limb and predicting the likely forecast for the Great Salt Lake area. SATURDAY Saturday is likely to be partly cloudy over Great Salt Lake, with a chilly high of 45. Lake Effect squalls may develop over portions of the lake but are unlikely to effect the cruise. Snow and wind from these squalls will be more directed towards the Wasatch Front benches. We will continue to be effected by a northerly air flow creating light to moderate winds 5 to 15mph most of the day. This flow will be straight down the lake most of the day slowly clocking in the evening to the North and then Northwest late evening before subsiding somewhat by midnight. Sea conditions are likely to be light to moderate chop most of the day. It will be partly cloudy Saturday night, with just a small crescent moon for light. Lows will be at or near freezing. The Crystal Bay anchorage has a chance of being slightly to somewhat bumpy since it will be afforded little protection from the northerly chop. Avoid going too far south or west into Crystal Bay as there is a large tufa reef complex in the bay. If you stay slightly north and west of the tip of Stansbury Island you will be in good anchor holding conditions with a sandy bottom SUNDAY Sunday will be a relatively warmer day, with partly cloudy conditions and a high of 50. Winds are likely to remain light from the north all day, with light chop. Have a good time and bundle up. Harbormaster
