Also inside the marina, unless they cleared them, there are some metal bars that stick up from the bottom. If you stay more to the east side of the marina and don't venture too far towards the island where there is a big open area with no docks, you should be fine. The first set of docs as you come in have sand bars in the slips. The last set and the ends are your best bet from what I remember when I kept my boat up there. Now that Antelope Island has a viable marina again many of you want to use that as a destination. The Rangers up there are very excited to have you up there. I thought I would go over some need-to-know information about using that marina.
. Be very careful approaching the marina. There is a tufa reef complex that stretches nearly four miles out to the northwest of Buffalo Point. Steer well clear of that point. When you finally make your eastward turn after rounding the northwest corner, make sure you stay about a mile north of Egg Island. Wait until you are due north of the marina before turning south into the marina.
. We do have reciprocity with the Antelope Island Marina. But this reciprocity only includes the slip rent. If you take your boat up you can use their slip for free (up to one week). If you take a car up there to leave and use, you will have to pay the daily entrance fee. This includes the park entrance and Davis Causeway fee. We do not have a reciprocity agreement for that.
. Most of the marina is still shallow. Only the outer slips on each dock are useable.
. Bridger Bay is still a very shallow anchorage.
. White Rock Bay (to the south west of the rock) is deep enough to be a decent anchorage.
I am working on a web page that will give GPS coordinates and other instructions on the best approach to the Antelope Island Marina. I hope to have that page done and on www.gslmarina.com sometime tomorrow. Other anchorages will follow.
