GSL / Antelope Slip Renters.
It is that time of year again . . . Most of the boats in the marinas had their registrations expire a few days ago. The rangers WILL be walking the dock in a few weeks and inspecting registrations, proper display, etc. Please make not of the following:
· It is not enough to register your boat. You must also have the current registration sticker displayed on the boat. To not have the proper year and month sticker can result in a “Failure to Display” citation.
· Coast Guard documented vessels must still register and display the proper year/month sticker even though they do not have to display the “UT” numbers.
· BOW NUMBERS MUST be complete. . . . The Bow Number displayed on each side of the boat MUST look similar to the example “UT-8982-SC’ That is, it must contain the letters “UT” followed by the four digit number issued by the state, followed by the two letters for the county it was registered in. Incomplete bow numbers may lead to a citation.
· OUT OF STATE REGISTRATIONS are ONLY valid for 60 days. After that the vessel MUST be registered in the state of Utah
· ALL SAILBOATS and MOTORBOATS Must be registered.
The above is just a courtesy heads-up prior to the rangers walking the dock.
CHANGING SLIPS.
Please do not change slips arbitrarily. I noticed a couple boats changes slips this last month and did not notify us. PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS! It creates problems because we may have already rented that slip to another owner already or the slip may belong to someone who has just temporarily pulled their boats. And with the need to move boats from B dock to other docks this late summer I need everyone to either stay in the slip they are in or request moving slips prior to just arbitrarily moving.
We hope to have the water to D dock on by the end of today. Hopefully C dock will also be fixed this week.
And it appears some people have forgotten that there is a reef out on Great Salt Lake. In fact there are several reefs on the lake. The most common one that people are grounding on is the GOGGINS reef that runs from the Great Salt Lake Marina up to Antelope Island along the south and east sore of the lake. Remember the “Saltair” Rule to keep off this reef; If you can see the south side of Saltair you know you are on I-80, If can see the west side of Saltair you know you are in the marina parking lot, if you can see the north side of Saltair you know you are on the lake. If you ever sail so you can see the east side of Saltair you know you are aground on the reef waiting for the rescue boat to pull you off. Never sail so you can see the east side of Saltair.
I have also noticed several boats sailing between the REEF channel and the DEEP channel outside of the marked channels. Remember that there is a reef down there that will become very shallow within a month.
