First of all, I want to thank all of you. I had so many offers of help on my college assignment that it is nearly impossible to thank you all individually. My phone was ringing off the hook within 15 minutes of posting my help request. So thank you very much.
And some good news. Snow pack is not looking stellar. But it isn’t looking horrible either. We have time to make up our deficit. But the lake has come up nicely and we will be putting in the REEF CHANNEL buoys either this weekend or sometime late next week. Most of the boats will be able to use the REEF CHANNEL as opposed to the DEEP CHANNEL now. BUT – if there is negative storm surge or waves you will probably want to use the DEEP CHANNEL to avoid bottoming out on the reef.
Now it is time for a warning. I have been watching the wind charts for the last five days and they seem to consistently agree that we have significant wind on the way. And it won’t just be one wind day. It looks like we may have several wind days approaching. This is normal for this time of year. Mid January begins windy season at the Great Salt Lake. And the windy season stays through most of May. The first significant wind day appears to be about two to three days out. Think about your dock lines, furling genoas, boat covers and any potential projectiles. Check them. Secure them.
And the real good news is that sailing season isn’t just around the corner anymore. It is only a short couple weeks away.
