I thought I'd let you know where we are for our water levels and how it is looking for next year so far. The lake level is 1.2 feet higher than this same time last year. That is awesome! Our water supply for the water year is a little low at only 69%. But that is a significant increase from where we were a month ago. In fact it is double. The water year starts October 1st. Yet we are significantly ahead for the calendar year, which starts January 1. Since January 1 we have received 19.28 inches of water. That is 117% of normal. Very good numbers. The ponds along I-80 near the Great Salt Lake and at the Great Salt Lake Marina are FULL! They are usually quite low at this time of year. This is good news for ground water saturation. And now for the important snowpack totals: As I have stated over the past several years, we get 60% of our spring runoff from the Bear River. Today the Bear River snowpack (Northwest Uinta Mountains) is 134% Weber/Ogden runoff snowpack is 138% Jordan River snowpack is 135% That puts the whole Great Salt Lake Drainage area at 135% of snowpack. VERY GOOD NUMBERS. It does look like we are going into a dry week next week but some models show the last part of December as being wet. Near the end of each month the National Weather Service updates their long-term forecasts. Their current forecast shows the Great Salt Lake Drainage area as being wetter-than-normal for December, January and February. Could this be the year that breaks the "one wet year and then two very dry years" cycle? I hope to see you all there. Dave
