GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users
There is a significant winter storm approaching for
Sunday and Monday. This storm is worth paying attention to.
Temperatures will warm up substantially by
Sunday. This will be followed by significant wind and gusts, rain, snow
and then freezing temperatures. This combination can pose risks to boats
in the marina.
Have you checked your dock lines or replaced them
recently? During the last large storm one boat broke loose and bounced off
other boats before coming to a rest on the breakwater.
Have you checked and cleared out your scuppers
recently. This storm is bringing significant rain and snow followed by
freezing temperatures. Last year we had a boat sink in the marina.
By the time it was discovered the water in the marina had frozen over the top of
the boat.
Have you checked your rigging lately? We
currently have a boat dismasted from the last storm. Another boat nearly
became dismasted in the storm before that.
Saturday is supposed to be a nice day. Good
day to make a journey out and watch the Bald Eagles and Northern Harriers on the
beach. They are plentiful in the marina now. You should also be able
to see the 165' x 48' barge (the largest vessel on the GSL) to the
west of the marina. Oh, and maybe it would be a good day to check the
boats too.
Thank you
