GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users.
Dredging is almost complete. It will wrap up
in the next few hours (around 3pm this afternoon).
The barge has already left for Promontory
Point. We are now just doing some cleanup work.
We want to keep the marina mouth closed until
around 2pm this afternoon. After that, you should be free to use the
marina mouth. Some important notes below.
1. The dredging was focused on the marina
mouth as you start your starboard turn to leave the marina. It continued
for a very short distance outside the marina mouth heading towards the red buoy
(R-12)
2. There are still some shallow areas in the marina
itself. These should pose little problem this year though.
3. We have probed the depths in the dredged
area. They look good. What used to be 4' to 5.2' appears to now be around 7' to 9.5'. BUT, there is so much suspended mud and
silt that our depth sounders are almost useless. It will take days for
this silt to settle down. Once this happens, we can be more thorough in
sounding the dredged area.
4. We do not think that any large rocks were
dislodged but we cannot confirm this at this time.
5. It will likely be a month or two before we
are completely confident of all the work done and all the depths
reached.
6. Some portions of the north breakwall were cut
away to create a wider mouth. But I would still keep some distance from
the breakwalls until we have a further understanding of the work
completed.
So, after 2pm this afternoon, you may use the
marina mouth. BUT USE IT AT YOUR OWN
RISK. USE EXTREME CAUTION. Keep
your path generally to the center throughout the marina mouth. Keep some
distance from each breakwall.
Thank you, for your patience during this
work. I also want to thank Dave Phillips, Fred Cannon, Trestlewood/Cannon
Structures, and their subcontractor. These people were efficient and and
quite talented during this project.
And thanks to all who harrassed me about the
improper use of the word "Hutle" rather than "Hurdle"
We will be posting some Navigation Notices over the
next few days. These will deal with a large structure on the water surface
near Eardley Spit, along with repositioning a couple of the Deep Channel
buoys.
Thank you
