GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users
The Iron Ranger has been installed in the Great
Salt Lake Marina parking lot. For those that do not know what an Iron
Ranger is, it is a self-serve fee center.
Please read this whole notice prior to sending hate
mail back to me or State Parks. I'm hoping you will be satisfied with our
policy for the short term.
Four years ago State Parks authorized the Great
Salt Lake State Marina to be a fee park. The reason for this was not a
revenue issue but a security issue. If we are a "fee Park" a trespasser
with dishonorable intentions would face a much more severe crime than if we did
not have a fee station. The goal is to add another level of security to
protect your boats and assets out here.
If you are a slip renter or dry storage
renter with a current contract and are reasonably caught up on your rent,
you are covered and are not subject to the fee. Your slip rent covers
access to the park.
If you are a current member or student of one of
the sculling clubs or schools who rent space in the marina, you are covered at
this time. Yo do not need to pay.
If you are a crew member or invited guest of a
boat renter who has a valid lease in the marina, you are covered at this
time. You do not need to pay.
If you are attending a function of "Island
Serenade" or Salt Island Adventures, you do not need to pay. Your fee to
them covers you. Please park at the north end of the parking lot near
their building.
If you are an employee of "Salt Island Adventures"
you do not need to pay. Please park in the area leased to Salt Island
Adventures.
If you have a year round pass from STATE PARKS
(National Parks Passes are not covered here), then you do not need to
pay. Your pass covers access to this park.
If you are NOT listed in the above group then you
need to pay. This covers tourists, people with vessels that are launching
for the day, buses (except for Waterford, Utah Crew), etc. The daily entrance
fee is $2.00 per passenger vehicle.
As far as enforcement action, we do not intend to
check every car for compliance. We may randomly ask for proof of payment
if we see suspicious or questionable activity. If you are not covered by
one of the groups above and have not paid, we will simply ask that you go back
to the fee station and pay the fee.
For the 2008 season, we are finalizing all the
details of the policy so that it is consistent with State Parks and also meets
the needs of the users of the marina.
For the Slip/Dry Storage Renters:
When we send out the
contract renewals in November, there will be a descripton of the policy
regarding your vehicles, your crew vehicles and guest vehicles.
When you send in your contracts
we will send you a new code to the marina gate, a new key to the docks and a
number of small stickers to place on your vehicles for identification. At
this time we intend to send enough stickers to cover you and a reasonable amount
of crew vehicles.
For The Sculling Clubs and Schools:
We are working out the kinks in
the policy to accomodate the members, coaches and students. We will
consult with you personally in the near future.
For Island Serenade, their guests and
employees. Again, we are working out the kinks and will consult with you
directly
Again, This is not a revenue issue as much as
it is a security issue for our marina users. Our goal is to accomodate
you, your guests, members and crew in a consistent and positive manner for the
Great Salt Lake Community.
Thank You
