We are just six short days from the Big Sail;  The Harbormaster’s Eardley Spit Cruise.

The weather forecast is a bit mixed at this time but generally looks pleasant with a temperature of 76 and a small possibility of rain.  There is also a chance of some wind but this forecast is still 6 days out and wind forecasts are notoriously wrong that far out.

On a good note.  That storm we had a week ago last Friday brought so much wave action that it exposed an old shipwreck (which generated international buzz) AND also blew out the silted-in hump inside the mouth of the marina.  It looks as if even the deepest draft boats are now getting out again with little to no effort.

So the cruise is on with some limitations.  We are still in Yellow and are encouraging everyone to follow all the good health practices and safe social distancing.  A flyer is attached.

We will not be able to hold the large barbecue on the beach nor have all the beach toys out.  We will be barbecuing from our boat and transporting the food out to the individual boats with dinghies.  I will only be preparing the main course.   We had planned on Hawaiian Chicken kebobs but with limited funds and the difficulty on getting enough chicken and good quality red peppers we will resort back to Brats and Dogs.  Sorry about that.  Hopefully next year’s menu will be awesome.

We will plan to start transporting brats and dogs to individual boats starting at noon.  Please plan to have your own plates and utensils as well as your chosen condiments and side dishes.

If you chose to go to the beach after lunch there is nothing that prevents you from doing so.  But you will have to plan your own transportation to the beach this year.  You can even bring your own water toys and beach toys.  Just maintain good health practices.

I am so sorry about the scaled down event but it is the reality we are dealing with this year until things go back to normal.  I feel we can safely do the sail out to Eardley Spit as long as everyone follows the guidelines.

It is going to be a rough boating year with the disastrous spring we just had so get out on the water while you can.

See you at the Spit.
