GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users,
Holy Cow! What a water year. I continue to be amazed at what is happening.
Here is where we are at now:
Current Lake Level: 4197.3
Net rise since or low of November: 3.7’ (normal is 2 feet)
How much more will we gain? Possibly 1.5 more feet for a top off at 4198.8
Direct Precipitation for the water year: 18.38 (normal is 13.02) for a net increase over normal of 5.36” or 141%
What is a water year? October 1st through May 31st. We have already done that and had all the water for June, July, August, September, October and the first seven days of November.
GSL Snowpack: 311% today
Bear River Basin: 300%
Weber/Ogden Basin: 315%
Provo River Basin: 339%
Yep, 1983 on STEROIDS!
But why aren’t we going to come up more than 1.5’? Because the north half of the lake is 1.5’ lower than the south half. Normally there is only a 1 foot difference. The south half is rushing into the north half through ALL THREE culverts. 4198.8 isn’t bad though. What a recovery!
The good news though is that there is SO MUCH snow up there that Great Salt Lake will likely rise well into July instead of topping out late May to early June. And we will have so much water flowing into the lake that we are likely to only drop about a foot this summer and fall compared to the normal two feet.
It’s all about the sunspots.
