Hey All;
It has come to my attention that many sailors are
being charged registration fees as if they are motorboaters.
Most of you should be receiving, or have received
your registration notices.
It is important you check the "Propulsion" section
of this registration. If it says "Outboard" or "Gas" or anything but
"Sail" you may be charged the motorboat rate as the state system may not
recognize that the manufacturer and model is a sailboat.
The motorboat rate is significantly more than the
sailboat rate.
I have also run into people who have recently
purchased a used boat. When they have registered the boat they have filled
out "outboard" in the propulsion section. This is incorrect. Just
because a sailboat has an outboard, it is not the primary means of
propulsion. With the new system you do not list the outboard if your boat
is a sailboat. Doing so will be costly and time consuming to correct. Let
alone being agravating dealing with long lines at DMV.
Hope this helps.
