GSL Slip renters
and marina users
As many of you
have probably seen on the news by now, we have had a fire that impacted the
marina.
A fast moving fire
off the Oquirrs, fueled by 65mph winds pushed the fire into the marina.
And, Incredibly,
we have come out of this very lucky.
Yes, there is
damage. But almost exclusively to PARKS property. I will issue a
full report tomorrow. But here is a brief summary.
The fire moved
rapidly from the Southern Pacific rail tracks up the Oquirrs. Fueled by
winds, it moved down and jumped SR 201, I-80, and then the frontage road where
it caught the fragmities near Blackrock on fire. Then it moved rapidly
towards the marina.
We lost our
maintenance buildings. A total loss. But, quick action by the
Unified Fire Department and the fact that the front came it at the right time
saved the marina. The fire burned up to Secured Dry Storage and Unsecured
Dry Storage and stopped at the edge of the parking lot.
There is some minor
damage to about 12 trailers in unsecured storage. The damage to six of
those trailers is a little more extensive. But no trailers were lost.
There is some
damage to a Catalina 22 sailboat in unsecured dry storage. This is quite
reparable.
There is minor
damage to some sculling shells in Secured Storage. This damage is from
the heat of the flames and is just some blistering damage.
And that is
it. The sculling storage buildings are unscathed. ALL SAILBOATS
(except for the damage to the Catalina 22) are unscathed.
I want to thank
all those that followed evacuation instructions. And I want to thank all
of those that understood why we wouldn’t let you in to check your
property.
NOW, HERE IS
WHERE WE ARE:
We have no
power. All power poles between here and Lakeside burned to cinders.
Rocky Mountain Power is working feverishly on this and anticipates we will have
power mid day tomorrow.
We will open the
marina to ALL slip renters, Dry Storage Renters and our marina clubs first
thing tomorrow morning. You will need your dock keys to access the
marina. PLEASE CLOSE AND LOCK THE GATE BEHIND YOU! If you do not
have a key to the gate please call my cell phone number 801-209-9142 and we
will make arrangements to let you in (please do not call me tonight!)
We will open the
marina to the general public as soon as we have power and do our final
assessment. We anticipate this being tomorrow evening or Wednesday.
For those of you
with some trailer damage, we will give a full report tomorrow along with
instructions on how this will be handled from our end.
Again, thank you
for your understanding. And please realize that communications may be
slow for a little while but we will endeavor to get back to all inquiries as
soon as possible.
