Instructions for the GSLYC Blessing of the Fleet Boat Parade on Saturday, May 5, 2018
It’s been a few years since we have been able to have the boat parade, and we have a lot of new boat owners, so please review the details before Saturday. The decorating of boats for this event has been a long standing tradition of the
GSLYC!
Saturday, May 5, 2018
All boats are welcome to participate, not just members of the yacht club.
At 3:00 pm, all boats participating in the Blessing of the Fleet and Boat Parade will meet on the water near 9 mark (just NW of the Deep Channel buoys).
Please have your VHF radios on, and all music or other distractions off. Reverend Frederick Leroy Carter Jr., will offer the Blessing of the Fleet prayer, which will be broadcast on VHF 16. Please be respectful and silent while the prayer
is being offered.
The rescue boat will start the procession back into the marina, and all boats should follow him, proceed to the back bay, turn around and proceed to E Dock where Reverend Carter will be blessing the boats as you go by. Please be mindful
of other boats, and keep an appropriate distance, allowing everyone to navigate the marina safely. Keep in mind, you may have to exit the marina again to turn around and return to “I”, “J” and “K” docks, or find an empty slip in the NW basin you can pull
into, until it is safe and clear for you to return to your own slip.
If you are unable to participate in the boat parade, and still want your boat blessed, please let Dave Shearer know (you must be on the list), and after Reverend Carter is done blessing the boats in the parade, he will be available to bless
the other boats that were not able to participate.
Afterwards, the Cinco de Mayo Social will start between 5:00 and 5:30 at the yacht club pavilion, just depending on the progress and completion of the Blessings.
